This has probablly been touched on, but has anyone noticed heat issues robbing power during the hot months with metal intake kits. I know the K&N kit for the ecotec and the AEM kit for the 2.4 sit relativly close to the block, and during the summer months I cannot imagine that its pulling a good temp air, even with air flow moving. I always think to myself that the stock airbox is sending a duct outside the engine bay for SOMTHING.
Anyone have frequent dynos run and see a patern?
I had tought about rapping my air intake with exhaust rap, its a idea. but im trying to find out more info befor i try it

They do make plastic intakes like mine and ICEMAN.
But you do have a valid point, Metal conducts heat all to well. It kinda sux that if you drive to a car show, and open you hood up on one of those 90+ degree days, and your doing some touch up work, and yu get a second or third degree bum just touching your intake.
I dont have that problem with plastic.
Now people are gonna post here, saying that the air velocity while driving will be to quick to any heat soak incomming air to effect anything.
you show some proof on that and maybe ill change my mind.
Then again, some people use CAI, but also in the hot summer time, you are still sucking in warm airwhich is pretty much going through a heating pipe to get to your TB.

when i had my Z, i had a WAI and during traffic, i could really feel performance decrease. The pipes would also get quite hot and i know it was getting heated air from the engine bay.
the only time i felt good about the intake not being hot was at night, or during steady driving on the freeway.

This test was done to show the effects of heat vs. a stock air box. It also tests other intake kits as well, and some have very good results, but it also shows the downfall of the WAI vs. the stock box. (in the heat)
the point is that an intake whatever is made of will never get hot enough to burn yourself, it's not directly bolted on an heat source, the throttle body is sitting on a plastic manifold, the heat under the hood is not high enough to get the intake hot... maybe on an older engine since the intake go right over the head, but I doubt it get SO hot like you're saying...
it also depend on the engine and the engine bay configuration..
It could always be worse....a buddy of mine with an integra and his engine having the header in the front makes his intake really close and gets hot....on my eco I dont really notice any effects by heat, but I have the AEM and like stated above a lot of it is plasic
