simple question ... if my pulley got loose somehow... would it effect the timing ? my car would pop and smoke would come out of the intake. and my cat would turn Bright red ... would this loose pulley cause all this ? and will it be fixed if i just fix the timing ? i dont wanna fix it and go through the trouble of putting my motor back in if is not that ... thanks
hmmm, if the cam bolts were coming loose, it is possible for the aligning pin to break off and bend some valves. I saw this about 2 months ago on a friends car.... I had to do a head on it.
you will see a mark on the timing cover if that bolt has worked its way loose too. hope that helps
but you said pulley.... which one? and is this a 2.4 LD9, that is what I talked about,. if you mean the puley for a/c and alternator, then just tighten her back up

hey its for the 2.4l .. i took of the pulley and a little piece of metal i think is the one that keeps the pulley alligned with the crank and the thing around crank that has teeth not sure what is called but the crank is like 80 degrees to the right instead of straight up.. and the intake one is not straight down its a little bit tilted .... hurmmm i hope i explained my self right
Yeah your motor is toast. The crank turned and your cams did not. Probably bent ever valve in the head. Find a new motor.
............. cant i just align it back up ?

I could not disagree more, if you wanna keep your engine, I just did the same thing on a 1999 sunfire GT, needed two valves so I got the whole head done (280) including 2 new valves, seals, machining, etc etc, Head bolts were 35 CND, and the gasket was 30ish CND, so the whole job was under 350 bucks and about 8-9 hours of my time, IMO it was worth it, cheaper than 1000 bucks for an engine, and heads are pretty easy to do too.
^^^ all IMO
