Flowmaster 40's on an ecotec.

Have my custom 2.25 piping all ready to install. I just need to pick up a muffler tommorow. I wanted to keep it on the cheap side as far as price goes.

How about the FlowMaster 40 series? Will they be way to loud or do they sound pretty good?

I simply want a muffler that wont sound like my car is running without a muffler lol.

flowmasters will give you the raspiest sound avaliable for a 4 cyl. i have a 50 series deltaflow on my 2.4 but i also have a 24" resonator installed, before i installed the resonator it sounded like crap. Flowmasters arent meant for 4 cyl engines really, if you want a deep rumble or an unraspy tone they arent the best to go with unless you use a big ol resonator.

Loud as all friggin hell. I rode in Eclipse with a 40-series for maybe a full minute ten minutes, and my ears were still ringing a couple hours later. Not to mention, they actually are not to well flowing as the name might suggest. Look into Magnaflow, Borla, almost anything but a 40-series.

I ran a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on an 04 ecotec with no other mods than a short ram and b&m shiftplus.
It was just an axleback i didnt switch out piping or anything.
I loved the sound and would actually lose races by revving back at other cars.
Had the stock piping flanged from 2" to a 2.25" inlet and a 2.25" dump off of the back of the muffler and ran it like this for almost a year with no complaints.

did you notice a difference in power or gas mileage? How loud was it outside the car...did it sound raspy or low?

I did mods in stages.
the same day i got the flowmaster installed i got a K&N drop in.
Noticed a difference in power but not mileage.
Once i put the short ram on it was a huge difference in power and mileage.
By huge it was probably only like 3-4 whp but in combination with sound it made for a nice effect.
One memorable time was sitting around cars wth friends and this guy revs up a Sentra ser spec v and everybody was like ooh then i revved up and there was utter silence and looks of surprise, lol.
The ecotec responds immensely well to bolt ons.
After all was said and done i was geting like 16-17 street and like 25 highway cuz i drive like an idiot =)

04silvercavy, how was the interior resonance? Was it bad? I'm hard pressed to find another muffler for 70 bucks that looks stock (its a plus if it looks stock)

I have a Flowmaster 40's and in all honest opinion in my age it's too fricken loud interior wise infact I am considering getting maybe the Flowmaster 60 or Magnaflow instead there is way too much resonance inside of my car's interior although both of my kids like the sound & vibration they think it's a super D fast car ... lol but for me it's way too loud inside of my car interior. Don't get me wrong it's decent for the price and if you like resonance then your good to go but if you like a quiet interior then that muffler is not the best choice IMO.

i love my flowmaster 40. the interior resonance is intense sometimes but the sound it makes for the people i go flying by is awesome. ill put up with a muffler that is slightly loud to me but sounds good to the people outside the car.

i have 2 40 series detlaflows on my 2.4 and it sounds great... no raspy sounds until the higher revs and even then its not nearly as bad as most cavys... i have 2.25" piping from the cat-back with them... ive had ppl ask if the car has a v6, it sounds alot deeper than most 4cyls...

Interior resonance isnt bad at all. It looks so stock that one time i got pulled over for exhaust right after i cut off the dump and just had like a 2.25" opening off the back of the muffler and the cop believed it was just a modified stock muffler and told me to take care of it, lol.

Ok, I will probablly wind up trying a 40 series out, its only $60 by me so what do I have to loose?

Last question, will this bad boy mount up with the stock mounting equiptment fromt he stock muffler, or is the flowmaster too beefy?

How did you mount yours?

Thanks.

the shop i got mine all installed at did a pretty bad job, the 2.25" piping is soo close to the rear beam than it burnt alil bit of my brake/e-brake lines(according to this other shop) i had them try to bend the piping up a lil and they did, now it rattles and the pass side tip is not lined up with the drivers anymore, its kinda slanted... oh well, im getting the rk duals this summer anyway so i'll have new piping and mufflers... but here is a pic of how mine looks, sorry no pics underneath... i really will miss this setup, im thinking i might just get another shop to rehang the mufflers and redo the 2.25" piping and keep these mufflers cuz they sound great and i've never had a bad comment on them... other than people not liking the style of tips... but its unique around here thats why i ilke it...
