Now where can I get a cam for a reasonable price?

Wait...you're doing bottom end work also?

Well should I do the cam with the head or wait for awhile to do pistons and rods together with the cam?

Well you do understand that the camshaft lies on the bottom of your motor under your pistons and rods, right? It's not like a SOHC motor where you would take off the camshaft to get to the cylinder head.

Yeah I know what the difference between OHV and OHC means man
Yea... the cam is in the block, it's a pushrod motor. If you are into replacing more valvetrain, I'd invest in the Crane Cams roller rockers, Crane Pushrods, CarCustoms stainless valves, and if you feel like purchasing a camshaft, JBP has you covered.

Just making sure cause that's alot more work than just upgrading the cylinder head. Also, I asked cause it was odd you wanted to get a cylinder head AND a camshaft...usually DOHC or SOHC guys do that, not OHV guys.
I'd worry about the rest of your valvetrain before touching a camshaft though. Do what Spotabee said.

Hmm interesting, well what kind of gains do you think I can expect with that head I bought?
Brett Dixon wrote:Hmm interesting, well what kind of gains do you think I can expect with that head I bought?
Um... none? It's a stock head.

Huh? It says it has a 3 angle valve job and all sorts of work done to it?
It's a remanufactured head, designed and built back to GM factory specs. Even on zero mileage motor, you will put down nothing more than the base amount of horsepower a 2200 motor makes. With that said, at least the head is bare for you to take to a machine shop and have it ported, milled for higher compression, etc etc.

It looks like all they did was a 3 angle valve job and everything else was remanufactered oem parts.

damnit, well I'm not paying for that crap, I will just find something else, do you guys happen to know if an 02 2200 OHV head will fit on my 99 ?

Yes it will

Then I just bought a good one......
IIRC there's heart shape looking openings on the pre 2200 and different shapes on the 2200. I gotta find it.

I've never heard of this...maybe I'm wrong but I thought they were all the same.

wait..... The one you bought is for a 2200 and you have a 2200? I think I read that you wanted to put a 2200 head on a 2.2 (non 2200)

HAHAHA
Damn you for making me think I was doubting myself!
Yeah, he has a 2200 and wants to put a 2200 cylinder head from another year on his current motor.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
jacked twice! i got a head and intake manifold that were ported from the calssifieds a long time ago. when i got it i noticed that there were chunks of piston ring in the 3rd cylinders head area. it needs to be resurfaced but im running the 1.6 roller tip rockers. will my valves hit my pistons?
