Ecotec SAFC -- Install Guide
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 11:42 PM
I finally finished the SAFC install on my friend's 04 Cavi.

This should also work for Ions or anything with an Ecotec.... i think.

Anyways.... here's how i did it
SAFC PCM
1 Brown Ground - PCM Side.................................... Black/White (73)(C2)
2 Black Ground - Non PCM Side............................... Black/White (73)(C2)
3 Red Ignition (B+).................................................. Pink (19)(C1)
4 Green RPM Signal (Ignition).................................. White (19)(C2)
5 Pink Not Used
6 Orange Not Used
7 Yellow MAP to PCM................................................ Lt Green (29)(C2)
8 Purple Knock Sensor (if SAFC2)............................. Dk Blue (64)(C2)
9 Blue Not Used
10 White MAP from Sensor ...................................... Lt Green (29)(C2)
11 Grey Throttle Signal (TPS Input).......................... Dark Blue (31)(C2)

Once everything is hooked up, i set it to Cyl #2 arrow up and to right.
Sensor Type = pressure ~760

If you can't handle it from here, now's the time to start asking questions

can you use that on a 98+ 2200?

how much does it go for?

the safc can be used on just about anything with an electronic MAP sensor.

these wiring pinouts are intended for the cavi with the ecotec, not the 2200. i'm actually not even a cavi owner. i just happened to need to install one and i noticed there's no good documentation as far a simplifying the install.

if needed i'm sure i could slap something together as far as wiring pinouts.

Stock settings are zero'd out across the board, you adjust from there, what settings are you asking about?

AIM me at citifolk22

but i am asking about what settings shuold i be running..... i am still stock persay, i have intake and full exhuast.

my settings on pressure is 01 for input 01 for output. and they are they same on the rest of them....

will it defualt to stock settings. bc its running fine. i took it down the road, and it seems fine on what i have it on. know whether or not they are correct i need help with.

just list what the settings should be.

when i started it after checkin everything, and changin the cyl to 2 and the direction to up/right, i looked and looked for the ~760 on pressure, and the only thing that was 760 was the mmh or whatever. shifted just IM me

Pressure should be 05 in / 05 out

I'll have to catch you on IM later, I'm usually not on that till at least 6pm, otherwise I'd never get any work done.

ok so here are the settings i need: Sensor Type....hotwire?flap?pressure?karman

Display Settings are 760mmHg,NE 6000RPM,CR+3%

Do I initialize yes or no?

I also need these settings.....Hi Thro, Lo Thro, TH Point, NE Point, Dec.-Air, Knk Set

If you can get me these i will owe you big time.

Re: Ecotec SAFC -- Install Guide

Sensor type: Pressure
Display settings: Look fine, although you want to set the RPM to be 7000, change CR to 0
No, don't initialize

The Hi Throttle, Lo Throttle, TH Point, NE Point, Dec. Air, and Knock settings are specific to your tune, and they are what you change to change the fuel delivery.

I'll let you know how to get the knock correction factor:

There are two settings you need to change under the Knocking Set menu:

For the first one:

Hold the engine RPM at a fixed value between 1300 and 1700 in neutral. After the RPM becomes stable, press the center switch. If correction fails, the setting remains 1500 RPM and you need to repeat the process

For the second one:

Hold the engine RPM between 3200 and 3700 in neutral. After the RPM becomes stable, press the center switch. If it fails it will remain 3500 RPM and you need to repeat the process.

Do you have access to the A'Pexi SAFC-II manual? It outlines exactly how to use it in there....

Well, I just got back from gettin the code read. It was like you said. It was the input/output. So, they reset it, and i drove for 20+miles to see if it was fixed with the new settings. But alas, I have another code. So I will be goin down again tomorrow to get it read and cleared.

I have read the instruction manual, but there really isnt any for sure setting. So here are the settings I have on EVERYTHING. Tell me what to change, Bc if not, boom, up for sale is a slightly used SAFC2.

Ok, let me start.

Sensor Type: Hotwire:01-01 Flap: 01-01 Pressure:05-05
Sensor Check (car not running, but acc on): In1: 4.500v In2: 0.095v Thr: 0.475 Knk:00
Display Scale: Pr: 760mmHg Ne: 7000rpms CR: +3%
Hi Thr: fi1 1000 +0%
Lo Thr:fi1 1000 +0%
Thr: Lo 40% Hi 80%
Dec.Air: Thr**** Ne1 10% Ne2 10%

And this is throwing a code, so I know it is not correct.

You're code problem isn't the SAFC settings, its what EVERYBODY has when they put the SAFC on, take a look at the "New Boost FAQ" and look for the resistor trick, that MIGHT help, but doesn't always.

As far as your other settings go, High Throttle, Low Throttle, and the NE points, that is the tuning you can do with the SAFC. There is no setting anybody can tell you is the "right" setting, because its specific to how you tune it. The percentage numbers on the NE points are how much fuel to add for that NE point RPM, also in the settings. All those things are things you need to figure out for how you want your tune to go. To have it behave exactly as stock when installed, the NE points need to be 0%.

Shifted, thx for the input. But it is not a voltage code. who knows for sure. But the initial code thrown was the exhaust output.

I will post again when I can pin point the problem. But it is starting to look like I will be selling this unit.

The reason I got this was for Stage2 Cams, so I wouldnt throw a knk code. But by the sounds of it. I might as well just buy a Colbalt SS.
