High-Flow Cat and Resonator Tips
Thursday, January 19, 2006 4:45 PM
I have a 97 z24 auto and I'm looking to add some more to my existing setup. I currently have an upper mount, an intake, and a custom 2.5" catback. I just ordered my pacesetter ceramic coated header today and I'm looking to replace the stock cat with a less restrictive one. I also plan on replacing the stock resonator. Where can I find these items for fairly cheap but still good quality? What would you guys recommend?

www.summitracing.com Thats where I got my stuff. I don't have any part numbers for you tho since, I guess you want 2.5" stuff. They have it tho. Magnaflow cat and dynomax resonator here.

Also you can go through Gravana Tuning and get a magnaflow or vibrant. They have a cat with a 2.25 in and out and a 3" in and out for forced induction.

I purchased most of my exhaust setup through eBay stores, but make sure to read up on feedback. I'm sure if you get in touch with Gravana, Turbo Tech, or Summit they'd be able to find the size you need.

I also hope you already know that running 2.5" piping may result in some power loss, esp. low end torque.

I do plan on boosting somewhere down the road (car only has 34k miles on it) that's why I went with the 2.5". I was also wondering how I should run the piping from the header back. Like I said I ordered the pacesetter ceramic headers and was wondering what size outlet they are. My main concern is getting all the piping the same size. Does this mean that I need to get a cat with 2.5" in/out and a resonator with 2.5" in/out or will the 2.25" do and when it get's to the cat-back it opens up to 2.5"?

The pacesetter is 2.25" at the end. I would keep all the exhuast the same size and I would change it all to 2.25" if it were me.
