Exhaust issue

K here is my problem... I have a 2200 with all boltons, and I feel like I am being robbed of some horsepower my exhaust consists of a Pacesetter 4-1 header ( in my opinion the best header for the 2200 ) a gutted cat ( yes I know its bad dont kill me ), and a 2.5" magnaflow catback. I was thinking of getting a 2.25" highflow cat and a custom 2.25" catback setup, which I figure would end up costing me around $300 total, now do you guys think that the gains I would see from that are worth the $300 ? And what kind of gains do you think I could expect from doing that?

the 2.5 catback is holding you back. you'll definitely notice more low end torque.

Especially onan OHV motor, I don't think you're pushing enough exhaust flow velocity even on the high-end to gain much power from it. 8 valves just ain't gonna cut it...

Anyway, I think your gutted cat and 2.5" exhaust (like the other 2 guys said) are what is holding you back the most. 2.5" is too big ( I even think it is too big for the 2.4 and ECO--without serious air flow work like cams, PnP head, so on and so forth). You're killing your low end torque, probably even some mid to upper range power too.

Get a Magnaflow cat since it won't throw codes (call them to find out the exact one you need), and get that cat back redone and you'll feel a nicer difference.

As far as what you'll gain hp wise, it is hard to tell. You'll notice it though.

I think the 2.25" cat back is the perfect size for a 2200. Less restrictive but not to big either

That's up to you to decide. It depends on how much money you have and what your future plans for the engine are. In my opinion, its a good price for a full exhaust setup but do you want to spend $300 on an exhaust that will give minor gains?

I would say $300 isnt to bad, considering that's with a cat converter too. Most cat-back systems are well over that by themselves. And like i said before, i think the 2.25" will make improvements over the 2.5". It all really depends on your future plans for the car.

well its staying N/A for awhile, maybe nitrous down the line, no turbo or supercharger though

when you increase the diameter of your exhaust, you are pushing up your torque curve. you're not really losing any bottom end, you are increasing your top end. you gotta figure out how your driving style is. do you cruise around between 1500 and 3000rpm or are you almost redlining it? our little engines need some backpressure, its the v-8s that get the most hp gains from an exhaust upgrade...plus what the other guys said about having 2 valves per cylinder and no cam work. theres only so much exhaust that will ever be able to come out.
