gas tank 95 to 01 Same ?

Hi i am looking at a fuel pump but i am not sure if the tank on my 01 sunfire is the same from a 95

There were two different tanks, but the pumps should be interchangable.

95-99 is a larger capacity metal fuel tank. 00-05 is a smaller capacity plastic (composite) tank. There is a slight difference between 00-02 and 03-05 tanks as well, there's a separate overfill pipe on the top side of the tank. But it doesn't affect how it works.

I don't honestly know if the older sender will work in the new tank.

I do know... I swapped the whole tank from an 03 into my 00, and it worked fine. I also know.. you can use a 99 tank on a 00 car, it will plug in and work just fine.

The sender units changed for the 00 model year, but it appears to be electronically-compatible with the older cars sender units anyway.

They're the same from 92+, which makes it nice for those of us 2nd genners who want to swap to the plastic tank in 00+.
