i put on a new header about a month ago, and i dont think i have any problems, but i'm curious anyway. i used the stock gasket on my new header because it had less than 35k miles and it still looked really really good.
what does a bad/leaky exhaust gasket act like? can you see anything or smell anything or hear anything? thx.

If it was bad, you'd be abel to tell right away. I've never had a bad gasket, but my old car had a bad gasket and it sounded like crap and it had that old non-catted muscle car exhaust smell.
Tinny / Raspy sound. Possibly lose some power. "Ticking" noise or quick "psst psst psst..." sound coming from it. ALWAYS replace old gasket with NEW stock gasket whenever header is removed and reinstalled. There's no excuse not to, especially since they're only like 6-8 bucks. Old one may work fine, but it never hurts to be safe, especially when it's that cheap. I'd be pissed at myself if I installed a new header and it f**king leaked. Good peace of mind, if nothing else.
i used my stock gasket , it had 95,000 miles on it , no leaks no problems
but the tick tick , or pssssssssst pssssssst , is kinda how they sound depending on the size
i used my stock gasket. I had 60 on my car.

Glad you guys had good luck with your old gasket. Still, I would never cheap out like that and sacrifice dependability, as well as risk having to do the job all over again because it didn't work.
Mine did not smell. Plus the stock one is a metal gasket. Also the one i had from Pacesetter was not metal. I am not sure how the stock metal one is going to be a bad thing

the stock one is not a bad thing ........ if ANYTHING when you install a new manifold .... performance or not .... just get the GM metal gasket..... or even a felpro metal one will do fine ...........
I used a new GMPARTS metal gasket when I installed my turbo manifold...... never looked back .......literally

it sounds, and smells like a wet fart, aka a lawnmower
Some times the best way to get that tailgater off your but is to light a fart.
