Wow, that was fast. I was curious as to why you would have to buy 2 different air intakes for different cars to make it fit.....couldnt you just purchase an aluminum tube and take it to someplace where they could bend it in the right positions?

It would be hard to bend them the way the intakes are already bent since they are mendral bends. It would most lickly take more time and money to have them bent up, then just buying the parts listed. Go on Ebay and find the cheapest one you can find, then buy a nice K&N filter.

hm, ok. Well i found them on ebay and i thinkim gonna try and go for it. Whats the amount of gain i get thats different from the short ram? will it sound better and pick up better? Also, this is important, I live in florida, therefore, it rains....alot. I heard there is a water filter adaptor or somethin that you attach somehow. What is that and should i get it?

The cheapest in my area to do this is $1/foot and $2/bend for mandrel bends. On my Neon it came out to $8 for the pipe and $13 for T-Bolt Clamps and Silicone Couplers. Then $30 for the K&N Filter. Works well and sounds great.

What about the water issue?

shouldn't have a problem with water unless you fully submerge the filter in water. as for warm air/short ram vs cold air/long ram, it's all basically up to personal preference. theres no noticeable gain between the two.

There that part AEM sells for CAI, its like a filter in the middle of the piping so your motor will not easily injest water. Cant think of the name at the moment.

Where did you go to do this and what exactly did you ask them ? Cuz theres a certain kind of aluminum to use for the tube. I dont even know who or where to ask to get this done. Cuz id rather do that then buy 2 different air intakes.

Dufus Head - My mistake, I used Stainless Steel, not aluminum. And I just called around the exhaust shops in my area to see who had Stainless in stock and a mandrel bender.

I just put a cone filter on the end of the stock intake tube. The K&N filter was like $35 and the 6" long piece of 3" exhaust pipe was $2. Not the best looking but it works better than stock. I don't worry about how it looks because nobody sees it under the hood anyway. Sounds kinda mean when I get on it, too.

You don't need stainless. Regular aluminized exhaust pipe works just fine. Cut it, bend it, paint it.

::sigh:: alright ill go with that. Now, Ive read through the tutorial above. But Does anyone have any process pics of putting in a cold intake? I know you have to cut a 3.5 inch hhole....but what about the fenderwell? dont you cut a hole in that as well? Ive seen cars with holes in their fenderwells and i could feel the suction from the filter....

I believe you just enlarge the hole where the factory intake comes up and then the air filter sits in the fender behind the wheel well, and I think you're supposed to cut a hole in the bottom of the fender lining so the filter can draw air from outside. I'm not sure, though. The way I plan to do mine is just with a short ram design. There's less cutting involved and less material. Long or short ram intakes are more of a preference anyway. Long ram looks better for show purposes, but again, it's under the hood so unless that's what you're into...

umm my friend you dont want to put that little filter on the valve cover, it's a vac line, on that civic intake you have that little plug, take it off and run a small piece of rubber hosing. this i will get you better gas mileage. just thought you'd like to know, i found out the hard way, but now i'm gunna go redo my intake , thanks man!.......

also how did you get to your cap? i mean it's all the way in the back. did it take you all day to change your wires?

Hey would regular steel steel piping for exhaust work? CUz I cant find aluminized exaust piping ANYWHERE. All the exhaust shops have steel piping....would that work?

Aluminized pipe is steel. Aluminized steel. It's the same stuff your factory exhaust is made of.

I was gonna do this as well, But I figured that GM hooked that up to a vacuum source for a reason. So I think I'm gonna Fab up a catch-can for it, That and it looks hella trick if done right!
