1. He may get a crappy air filter
2. He might get a tube with no hole for his IAT sensor
3. It might not even FIT in his engine bay correctly
4. He might not get all the couplers or t-bolts to hold his intake in place
Too much chance for error. Spend the extra money for less headache.

well i bought all kinds from ebay. they don't fit right, the air filter does suck, and they never have the right size hole for the iat sensor. now with tha being said the one that comes right off the air box on the tb does work fairly well when you replace with a better filter. the only thing is the bracket is usually in the wrong spot.

I'm going to go against some people here with my own opinion. I say if you buy from a good source on ebay you'll be fine. I got my intake off of ebay for something like 60 shipped. It came with a genuine K&N filter and the seller seemed to have a good reputation so I went for it. I would be sceptical about the 11$ one, but if you can find something that seems more logical I don't see any reason why you shouldn't go for it. That's my personal opinion.

No one said that buying off of ebay is "bad"...my thing is that he shouldn't buy from a source selling an $11 intake and you feel the same way. Ebay is only as good as the person/place you're getting it from.

I too, bought a ebay intake.. It was sumthing i bought cheap during swapping my engine so i wouldnt have to put all the stock airbox crap back in. My friend also bought one just like mine.. I warned him and told him to get a different filter.. Even just one of those Cotton Fiber Auto Zone ones cuz those are good.. a week after i had the car running i was driving on the highway and then all the sudden i hear this sucking noise get really loud from the engine.. i pull over and the base with the coupler that holds on the pipe was still there.. The filter element was detached from it and just chilling in the bay... Little bit of duct tape to get me to the nearest Auto Zone and i bought one of their cotton Fiber filters.. no probs yet.. Also in both i did have to bore out the IAT sensor hole.. and also.. the coupler where it connects the intake to the TB was to tall.. It was rubbing my ram air hood and making it hard for it to close.. I ended up cutting a inch to a inch and a half off the coupler and it works fine now.. No other problems lol. But i've spent $45 on it and like $28 on the new filter. $73 bucks.. I think i might have been able to get a better decent intake for that much but who knows.. O well, when i put in my 2.3 HO Mani its just gonna get cut in half anyway lol. The ebay intakes need minor modification most the time.. If there a no name brand or like BOMZ i have seen some using for the brand.. There not completely bad because they are the same thing as most intakes.. It just depends on if u don't mind modifing it.. or if u want to just put it in..
If money isn't the problem then buy name brand, or if your on a budget.. create a custom one! If I knew that they sold pieces to make your custom intake when I bought my car, I would have gone with that idea and had fun.

I totally disagree with spending $100 on an aluminum tube, regardless of what filter comes with it. Unless you
need a name brand (for whatever reason), don't waste your money. If you're not capable of drilling a new IAT sensor hole, or cutting a tube to fit, you shouldn't even have the hood open. I understand the lack of quality/fitment issues. But, its very easy to whip up a custom bracket or swap out a filter on whatever you buy.
Point in case- my brother bought an Injen intake for his Celica. He paid about $275 (which is about what they go for). I bought an Accord intake to use on my car for $20 on ebay, and then bought a K&N filter for $45, total of $65. The directions with each kit were terrible (has anyone ever heard of a "square vacuum valve", meaning purge solenoid?- straight from the Injen directions, and you wonder why there are so many guys out there who have no clue what anything is under the hood), the pictures sucked, too dark to tell what was what. But, his intake required just as much, if not more modifications/moving of parts under his hood to fit as mine did. His was $200 more, and designed for his car. Go figure.
^^ agree... for intake ur paying more or the name.. not the product.. as with many other parts..Hense why i still have my ebay intake.. no point in change.. just had to cut a rubber coupler, uni-bit a lil bigger hole, and buy a good air filter.. might sound like alot but didnt cost me more than 75bucks.. and it works fine.. If u want to spent 100+ on a intake go for it.. not gonna make u any faster if ur intake says AEM on it..

ive got an iceman. about 195 bucks from procarparts.com.
about 15 to 20 minutes to install.100% worth it. you can feel a slight
gain and it gives off a nice hum. ive been through the whole $10 dollar intake

I am just chiming in to ask everyone,
1)What kind of intake you are running?
2) time to install?
3) Have you noticed an improvement in power and or fuel ecomony?
4)mods "if needed" to make it fit and if you like what was the cost and who did you get it from?
I am trying to decide what Intake to get.

I got the Weapon R Secret Weapon intake. It took about an hour or so to install. You won't feel a difference really, maybe something slight, but not much. I payed like $250, but I got an air box with it, so probably around $190.

I hope people understand that most intakes that are cheap, are knock offs of name brand ones, they didnt have to spend anymoney for R&D, they just copied the design of a name brand intake company and sold it for much less. Also most name brand intakes are CARB approved, which cost a tone of money to get. And also, people still with factory warranties might still want to buy a name brand intake.

k&n is just the grandfather of air filters....i would trust k&n, green, AEM, HKS, GReddy, or Weapon R filters and thats about it.....
