Hey guys how important is the sensor that’s connected to the stock intake tube in a 96 2.2 and if I don’t use it when I put in an aftermarket intake what could happen... some one told me that i need it... is this true

Yes, your gas mileage will crumble, if you have an auto your car will shift very hard, and the computer will go into limp mode (reduced performance).

Yes you can, most of them have a hole in them just for the sensor.

^ Your's is half ok

It won't reduce the performance because you have a functioning sensor there, but you aren't letting the ECU adjust the fuel based on the temp of the air. In a turbo car, this may be alright (I haven't decided or tested it yet), because its making the ECU think the air is cooler (more fuel), but isn't going into limp mode because it has a fully functioning sensor.

The sensor you have listed there works, you could also use the huge one from the 2.3, I have it, but its just performing as a pipe plug

measuring of air temp is even MORE critical on boosted cars from what i;ve learned this year.

Lee, you are best off getting your IAT as close to the throttle body as possible.
