a/c compressor question
Tuesday, December 20, 2005 6:16 AM
I just ordered an a/c delete pulley for my sunfire, my question to you guys is how much do you think the stock a/c compressor weighs with lines and evaporator and condenser and everything? Has anyone weighed this out, j/c? It looks like it is really going to reduce a ton of clutter in the engine bay though I'll get pics once its done.
Thanks guys

I think the actual compressor weighs about 10 lbs or maybe a little more.

33lbs if you remove EVERYTHING, evaporator, condenser, line and all.

Heres an ok picture with it all gone. Notice the difference in-front of the radiator.
Man I need updated pictures. Gosh

There are 2 options from my understanding. One is to get an A/C delete pulley. The other is to get a different belt for your motor without a/c. This is more difficult to do if you have an underdrive pulley that shortens the belt length. In that case, you'd have to search around the site for part numbers. My A/C doesn't work, and I'm going to need all the space I can get for my boost project, so ALL of the A/C crap is coming out.

I yanked mine out a few months ago- I am using the delete pulley on my 2.4.

It really frees up alot of space behind the motor on the firewall and heading toward the passenger strut tower... That A/C canister thing is huge--

i yanked mine out also.......i upped the size of the tensioner pulley from 90mm to 100mm
played around with some belts and what not.....i use the tensioer as an idler.......when i put the belt on i have to turn the crank and roll the belt on....no a/c and no delete pulley....and the tension is good.....
