I have a 2005 cavy with the 2.2 ecotec engine with the auto transmission and after installing the pacesetter 4-1 header especially when cold i get a rattle, after it warms up I hear the rattle usually in the lower RPM range, what could this be? I was thinking maybe a exhaust leak or the ball joint rattling whats your alls opinion?
I have had a similar situation with my Pacesetter on my 2.4z. On mine its the joint between the down tube and header....just needs tightening up. Good luck!
thanx, it sounds like @!#$ thats all i know....rattle like hell whne its cold and still rattle pretty bad at low rpms, if figured it could be a bad weld or the ball joint being loose thanx.
Did you remember to retighten the bolts after the first heat cycle? If not , bet those bolts are loose again.
which bolts? and nobody ever mentioned a heat cycle to me.
heat cycle, a normal ride and you let it cool down i guess...
Da Ghost did you ever have problems with your header rattling?
once, but it was the downpipe that was touching the frame where the exhaust shield start. It was doing noise when I turned. I got the car at my local exhaust shop to have another exhaust support (where the pipe start turning). Problem solved. To have one soldered at the downpipe is not a good idea, the support broke twice....... But I don't know if it's the same thing for you. The best would to lift the car and see where it can touch the car.

The Manifold bolts and the bolts connecting to the down pipe if yours arent welded.
Ya see, when you tighten your bolts down the first time on a cold engine part, they only go so far, DUH.
Well when heated, metal parts expand ever so slightly, loosening those one tight bolts.
Ususally rigth after you reach operating temps you will notice that they now will be loose. Turn off car and retorque to spec, and your good to go.
I just remembered something Mike, mine did the same thing right after I installed mine. Right above the flange on the manifold side check the other o2 bung it should be on the passenger side. The plug that comes with the header had to be re tightened on mine due to the warm up and the vibrations.
sounds to me like its banging on your subframe
well today I checked clearing and the connection between the header and down piping, nothing is touching and the joint is not loose, i'm going to check the o2 sensor bung tomorrow and see if that might be it...i'm going to take it back to the exhaust shop and make them tighten everything again and put me on a quiter magnaflow type muffler and hopefully it'll do better.
you might want to consider motor mounts also
i've got a polyurethane lower motor moutn and stock motor mount i mean i doubt it would be that, i listned to it tonight and i think it the sucky ass fart can muffler i have.

^^ should have done before the header IMO
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
i already have the lower mount just need the upper...i'm thinking it is the muffler that i have. Going to the exhaust shop tomorrow to have it checked out.
