hey guys, just a quick question for ya.

i was hearing that apparently that in the 2.3L quad fours, you can swap the cams into a 2.4L and get a gain of 20 - 30 horses.....is this true?

thanks CoryZ24T

I've heard anywhere from 5 - 15 horses depending on existing mods.

I assume if you have the 2.3 manifold and a nice header you see somewhere around these gains.

but to truly see the power you gotta throw a Port and Polish on there

Also realize that these cams were designed originally to make power at a slightly higher point on the powerband. so you may lose some low end.

and yes. read the sticky. it's crucial that you do.

I highly doubt you will gain 20-30 HP from camshafts alone without boost, or even any other valvetrain work done (and this is on most cars). Don't believe the hype.

Other than that, it's a good swap to do. Like said, read the sticky and enjoy the new horsepower gains.

from what ive seen dynoed....i believe that the cam swap with the HO intake and TB gained alittle over 15hp...which isnt ALOT but still a very respectable gain

you could gain up to a total of 25 or 30 on the following conditions:

everything is adjusted right
you have your head ported
you buy new cams (as in not from a junkyard). i see no point in swapping in a camshaft with high mileage and worn lobes

sake of price?

I got my 2 cams for 30 bucks... together.

now let's see.. almost 200 from the factory... each..

mine aren't very worn either, I'm staring at them right now and the only thing they have on them is faint rust from being exposed to california air. sometimes you get good cams and sometimes you get crap I suppose.

In other words, take a mike and learn how to doublecheck and make sure you don't get @!#$ty cams

yep. Remember. to get the correct readings it's the height of the lobe minus the width and that's = how much lift the camshaft has

I think that's how it goes though. make sure it's not .410 because that means you got some mean cams there. at least that's how I remember it. I haven't measured mine since I got mine, hit the mark the first time. every time.

Someone correct me on this?

.410" of lift mean Ho or W41 cams. Both had the same lift, just the duration was different.

It's not a 30 hp gain, but it is a good gain. Alot of people on this site have done it. It is also called "Secret Cam Swap."

and the duration was not much off. The HO duration was 212 and the W41 duration was 219. You'll have an easier time finding an HO grind cam over a true W41 cam.

I always remember being told to avoid the .410 cam because it throws a code, so maybe I'm wrong.

I have the HO exhaust cam, and it never threw a code....

wait. if I'm remembering correctly. it was the intake cam what couldn't be HO.

Re: 2.3 quad 4 cams

actually the 2.3 cam will throw a code on a 2.4

UNLESS

you have the intake cam made to work the cam sensor

Re: 2.3 quad 4 cams

That's what I was failing to remember. the 2.3 intake cam, as far as I can remember, the 95 came with a half moon like lobe that was for the CPS. and any other years came without that little half moon piece and had to be welded on so it wouldn't throw a code

here's a picture

that's it I believe

okay. thanks for clearing me up guys.
