Alright everyone, can someone give me a quick explanation of how free spinning (ie. reving an engine with no load on it, such as in neutral) kills engines? I know it can, but just wondered why, how, and under what conditions. Thanks in advance.
define "kills engines"

It's more pointless than harmful

Over-revving the engine without sufficient oiling can kill a motor....
Plus it's stupid...?
When the engine is spinning with no load on it, all the power is used 'in-house' and you could potentially destroy the timing chain. In an interference engine, this could lead to TOTAL DESTRUCTION MUAHHAHA!

better a delay than a disaster.
i thought i would get something free from this post..
Are the LD9s an interface engine.
It wouldnt be any fun if it was easy.

OK, that's pretty much what I assumed, that all the energy is pent up within the engine. Anyway, thanks for the only useful post.
To the above ^^^, I believe that all third-gen j-body engines are interference engines.
