Breather???
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
breathers just make sure your valve cover breathes properly, its just something other then letting oil into your intake.
BTW, if you did a search you would have found 262 threads on the subject.
waste
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

waste of money and a huge fine if ya get caught. at least it is here in canada.

So enlighten us oh mighty one, Cuase the only reason people here use one, is the reason i gave.
the idea is to give a release
to any crank case pressure, without it the pressure inside the crank case
would build so high that the vehicle would run very roughly and for some
engines stop>

a fine? how so? i know lots of people including my old man who have this on their car..
If its the same thing i am thinking of you only need one if your running boost really... its when you get blow by, by the piston rings it vents it out the breather... only reason i could see this being any benifit on a N/A engine would be if your rings are shot... aha in that case why bother putting this on.. your engine needs fixing not adding more parts

keep in mind that i said "in canada" but its a 350 fine if ya get caught here...i know that from experience. but i got away cause he marked my car as a cavalier when its really a sunfire. (guess the cavfire conversion is good for something.)
humm just a clarifaction here. just noticed your from alberta...could be just be an ontario thing then, sorry for the confusion.
Even on a NA car you still need the breather.
It serves two puposes, one to vent the blow-by of the rings(even new rings that are properly broken in still have some)and potientially volitile gases from the heated oil and two to draw in fresh air in conjunction with the PCV.
The blow-by gases contain molicules of carbon, which can foul your oil, and gas vapors, which could potentially build to explosive levels(rarely occurs, but could). When the oil is heated, it too gives off gases that could be potentially harmful. The PCV draws these gases out of the engine and they get burned in the combustion cycle.
On a NA motor, the breather allows fresh air to be drawn in as the PCV is drawing the excess gases out. On a boosted motor, the breather allows these gases to be vented out, since there is no steady source of vacuum for the PCV to draw from.
The lack of a PCV, and the lack of a way to remove the contamination, is why on a boosted motor is is extra critical keep up with the oil changes.

See this (its exactly what I would have said)-

I can never understand why so many people think the PCV system flows the opposite direction of what it does (intake tube/breather- crankcase- PCV valve- IM).
breahters are ok...
getting a catch can for releasing the crank case pressure if you are gonna be gettin on the gas is better.
i had a breather for years, especially the years when i was just doing reg driving. once i started racing and driving hard as hell, i got catch can...
catch cans allow the oil byproducts of water, and crap to come out the valve cover, and the vapors separate in the catch can, and ONLY the vapors go back to the intake to be reburned....
in short...all the crap comes out, clean combustible stuff goes back in.
well worth it. catch cans can be found on ebay for around 30-50$
if anyone needs any info on it, let me know.
so event how would u install the catch can to serve the purpouse u stated? i know its prolly simple but im an idiot and need instructions for everything. or if u want email me at cavipower1@yahoo.com thanks!!!!
I run a catch can. Breather is Illegal in ontario and stupid. I'd rather catch the extra oil and run the system as it was meant to be run stock.

Hi Event. Good you mention it, because I am looking for a good oil catch can that was baffled and not only colect oil, inclusive oil from engine fumes.
I post some info and questions
here
Comments and pics are welcome.
Thanks,

I have one on my car. but it's gonna go soon..... check profile for pics of it. a breather by the way, not a catch can.
look in to the catch cans that srt-4's are using...
a breather with a PVC valve play a very important role in creating crank case vacuume.
ive eaven seen some cars and bikes have a vac pump because motors run best with about 5 IN\HG of vac.
