97 head compared to 98

Here's the thing, i own a 97 2.2 cav, and im boosting. sure low boost will be fine for awhile, but sooner or later im going to need more, which means more fuel, which means eventually bigger injectors. With the 97 it uses side feed injectors where bigger injectors are not available, the 98 it uses the standard bosch style with a huge selection for injectors.

Is a 98 head the same as a 97, but just with a different intake manifold and throttle body+fuel rail, or is there a huge difference? how hard would it be to convert my 97 to a 98 top end? Just thought id see what you all thought.

the 98 head has a completely different valvetrain, intake manifold, and fuel rail. it is swappable with modification.

Might as well just do a full 2200 swap. They seemed to fix some issues with the timing chain/tensioner during those years. You have to splice in some injectors, change computer, and move some sensors.

The farthest How To ever written for this was in 2nd gen a few months back. The only reason it didn't get completed is because the intake manifold didn't physically fit in the engine compartment. He had worked out the accessory brackets, wiring, etc, but he didn't want to hack up the firewall just for a 2200 head. It will fit in a 3rd gen though, I've seen it done before.

So, a 98-02 head will fit on a ln2 engine?
So, I'd have to run new coolent lines, but thats not a big deal, i know the'd have to be custom.

The head and the block oil and coolen passages will be fine rite? Now what about electronics? i have a 95 2.2 it has an egr valve. I've heard some have this, some don't. With sticking to a 95 ecu, its going to want and expect and egr. How to get around this? the injectors should work on the 95's batch fuel system. I'd probably have to stay with an ecu from 95-97 because of the difference in the crank, and timing would be off if i switched to a newer ecu. (or run megasquirt...)

Are the coolent lines, wires for injectors, and egr the only thing to worry about? Oh, the exhaust flange is different. so, any exhaust will need to be for a 98+ would pushrod lengths be the same? I know i can use the same lifters. and i can probably keep my crane rocker rollers. with a change of the studs if i need to. springs and retainers would be the same too right?

98 was the last year of EGR i believe. you'll need the 22200 computer

sounds like a lot of headaces to me, the whole turbo thing started to get to me for awhile, i grew up round chevelles and old c-10's, somthin if you were going to work on, you just jumped in the enginebay. ive worked at a parts store and a mechanics shop for about 2 years now, and cars for several. Im not stupid, just miss the easy stuff.

Before i went through all the wiring and stuff id just buy a wrecked 98 or so and just put my cars parts on it to make it good again. I hate making somthin more work then it should be. thanks for the posts.
