Please, if you know anything about swaping to 95 ecm ob1, POST!!!!!!
i'm building my engine in about a month and want to put HO cams in it, so i want to swap to OBD1 so i can chip the thing and rev up to 7450rpm. btw i'm also putting the 086 head on.
What i know is i need an ecm from a 95 2.3L with manual tranny. does it have 2 or 3 plugs? from what i have read, OBD1 is 2 plugs and OBD2 is 3 plugs. will i need the harness or i can still manage to use my 97 harness?
please post or email me any info!
thanx!
the 95 is a 2 plug ecm ..youll need the computer and enough of the harness to wire over...should be fairly cheap just a bit time consuming

ok, anyone got the diagram of the 2.4 97 and 95 2.3??
will i need anything else?
will I need any sensor off of the 2.3l?
thanx!
...talk to spotabee racing, he may know.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
...and what if a take the harness that goes with the 95 ecm???
will it be plug and play or i'll still have some wire to redo???
thanx!
the 2.3 Ecm is 3 plugs (except the 95)
Gilles
2.3 Ho
so the one i need has 2 plugs, since i need a 95 one!
hey gilles, how much did you pay for the w41 chips? did you get it from manta?
do know any place i could get that 95 ecm with harness in Quebec???
(ma blonde habite labas et je demenage labas a noel...)
also, i need someone to help me built this engine
so any 2.3 or 2.2 ecm MT will fit!
do i need to get the ecm reprogammed or something...(like for a/c, if the car i get the ecm from doesn't have a/c)?
or just wire that thing and play?
and i got the diagram for the 95 ecm and got the 97 one from ny-jbodies, and both are 2 plugs!!!! weren't mine suppose to be 3 plugs??????
I'm lost here.
thanx
The '97+ ECM harness has 2 plugs, the 95 Auto and all of 96 had a 3 plug ECM harness.......
Your swap is pretty easy, just need the 95 ECM (5 speed 2.3 or any 2.2) and the plugs with 6" of wire........ pick up a couple dozan heat shrink connectors. You should be able to change the EPROM out on it with a re-burned Mantapart chip, and it should run.
I have a full '95 harness in a '96 J body, hooked to a '93 W41 engine....... runs awsome except for the fact I'm running a stock '95 EPROM

great... that sounds good.
what does the EPROM does?
so in the 95 ecm, all i will have to do is change de EPROM with my 97 one or does the w41 manta chips IS the EPROM?
thanx for your help!
The Eprom is the "chip". When people talk about a chip for the 2.3, they are looking for the Eprom. It as all the timming info and fuel maps. You can't take the one in your 97 Ecm cause it's weld on the board, hence why you can't chip the OBDII ecm.
What you have to do is buy an Ho chip or W41 chip for the 95 Ecm. Only supplier is Mantapart.

2.3 Ho
good, Merci!
is it easy to instal the chip??
chip install is easy. I have the Eprom HO 7200 chip in my 95 GT.... the HO motor will go in..... hopefully soon lol.
Remove computer (should be near the passenger side wheelwell... near the horn). Unplug, take apart (the bolts could be tricky), remove the clips holding in teh stock chip, put in new chip, clip, put computer back together... whalah... basically. It's late and I'm half asleep...
i have another question do you thnk an ECM from a 1994 cavalier V6 would swap in (i know it needs rewiring) or it wouldnt work because they normally are inside the car ? (I may swap a V6 instead of going turbo)
just so youll know what it looks like here are the chips i have

het scott trent, are these for sells?
haha ...the HO one WAS for sale but "fallen angel" bought it couple months ago...and i have the w41 installed ....i get mine thru manta and i seem to have the best luck dealing with them..they even answer the phone for me
...so if you REALLY want i could order them for you

ok, so what if i get a computer that came from a auto?
will i need to get GM to reprogram it for manual? or this is in the EPROM?
and what about the port to read code... how do i go about that?

It's in the EPROM. Get a nice big bag of heat shrink connectors and a good bic lighter. And probably some burn treatment. I think I burned myself like five or six times when we were wiring the injectors up on our project turbo sedan.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
thanx!
i will just take the pins out of my connector and put them in the 95 connector, like this i will save on cutting and shrinking tube!
... what about the port to read the code since it will be OBD1, not OBD2!! will i still be able to read the code?
does anything change for the 00-02's? I have been looking to buy a 95 z, this may be a bit easier to do!
Thanks
