2.4L V V T ecotec head

does anyone know if this head can be swapped onto a 2.2L ecotec. i think it would take a computer upgrade, but could this be possible? The reason i ask is that i'm about to begin my head work this winter or next spring, however i would kill for vvt on my ecotec. I appreciate any help, comments, or suggestions you guys might have.

Any answer given, would be a complete guess. I don't even thing a cert. Gm mechanic can answer your question. The motor is too new for anyone to really know anything
The first thing you could do is find out what the bolt pattern is, see if it matchs at least.
Now how would you find this out...just call up gm parts counter and ask if they share the same head gasket. If they don't and your really determend..buy both head gaskets and see how it can be mated

You might get lucky and find a wrecked ls with a 2.4 out there somewhere in the US of A. Buy the head and try it on!

I thought the Ecotec's where built with VVT in mind as a later addition so I would think they wouldn't spend all that cash designing a new and complelety different head when the original was suppposed to beable to eventually get it.

This has been discussed before and honestly, there is no answer. I have a friend who wants to attempt it but you have to think about it...

Variable Valve Timing is controlled by your computer, so in order to swap it on, you would need the computer off that car and I'm sure some type of harness as well. On top of that, we aren't sure of the patterns of the head compared to a 2.2 ECOTEC.

So if you do have the money, you're lucky enough to find a wrecked SS or want to spend GM prices for a head, than by all means do so and attempt it but you won't find an answer here as of yet.

In my opinion, unless you have the funds...it's not worth it. You could spend the money attempting this elsewhere and there is also that chance of it not working at all.

cobolt uses electronic throttle control. so the ecu wouldnt work. you might be able to use a vtec controller as some type of piggy back. but like NJHK said, it hasnt been done yet and not much is known since the engine just came out.

it will most likely physically bolt on, but no one has any idea what the resulting compression would be, or how you would have to set the timing if there are any differences in that neck of the woods. Getting the computer not to freak out would probably be an issue as well. Most likely you'd be better off gettting the whole engine so that you get the displacement advantage as well. But as everyone else has said, this is all pure conjecture.

Imagine that, the GM mechanics around here are complete retards when it comes to anything other than OEM replacement parts...guess its not really thier job to worry bout the aftermarket tho

Why would you go through swapping a computer system and everything to retain a lesser displacement engine, why not, if you are doing all that work, just use the 2.4 vvt eco?

more trouble than its worth, you would need to replace almost everything, better off just swapping the whole motor

lol im not to sure about the bolt pattern but look around my bro just picked up a recked ss for 2000 bucks so he plans to swap out his 2002 2.4 and swap in the charger motor out of the ss so i mean keep your eyes open you might find a good deal like my bro did

youcan put wings on your car and make it fly if you want, all it takes is money. you can get that head on a 2.2 no matter who says what. it just depends on if its worth it and how much money.
