Getting p0340 camshaft signal with MSD DIS 2?
Monday, October 24, 2005 1:25 PM
Has anybody recieved a PO340 ( Camshaft Position Sensor A - Bank 1 Circuit Malfunction) with a MSD DIS 2.

I installed my MSD DIS 2 Programmable this weekend and it works great but I'm getting this code.

I'm sure people have installed them on their Ecotecs with no problem. Please let me know of the solution.

MSD said that I need part number 8912 to send a higher spike signal from cylinder #1 to the PCM so it can distinguish itself from cylinder #3. Is anybody running this along with their DIS2's because of Ecotec's wasted spark system.

The sensing circuit detects the polarity and the strength of the secondary voltage output, the higher output is always at the event cylinder. The ICM sends a CMP signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) based on the voltage difference between the event and waste cylinder firing energy.

MSD is right. wanna know how i know....i told them the part was needed on our cars too
gotta buy it. its called the Cam Sync Generator.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

they dont have a sensor so they use whenever the 4th plug wire is firing to figure it out and actually the p/n to resolve it is 8914 and while the 8912 may work its more complex and not needed, also I can verify that the 8914 works, I am totally code free, so msd is wrong for telling you 8912

yes I observed this code while prototyping my msd setup until i properly used the 8914 part, its amazing to me how msd dont even know thier own stuff

just go to my website and read up under the how to section
This will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know

yeah, you need the cam sync generator to shut off the CEL. although the car seems to run fine without it.

So is it the 8914 or the 8912 that I need, I bought both just to make sure.

I recently bought a MSD Ignition box and I asked the MSD about hooking it up to the 04 ecotech. He said this: Unfortunately, we do not offer an ignition controller for your Ecotech engine. The DIS ignition controller will not work on your application since the coil and igniter are integrated. We are working on a system for this type of set up so hopefully we will have something in the future. So did I just waste some money buying this box? If it does work are there any directions on how to wire it up? Plus, where did everyway mount their boxes?

did you read any of the above posts, MSD apparently is about as smart as GM and cant spell much better either, its totally possible to wire up and several on here have done it, as of yesterday QBE is even doing it with msd wires and msd coils completely bypassing the stock ignition system
