thoughts on this exhaust system

i have for now an rk sport 4-1 header with a hi-flo catco. now from there im thinking of going to a exhaust shop and have a 2.25" custom catback made for me. how would i have the setup for the custom catback? after the cat would there be an area of the 2.25" piping then i found this muffler on ebay clicky, then after the muffler/resonator continue to have the 2.25" piping all the way, over the rear axles and into a cheap exhaust? please let me know if this setup would work. im learning more and more on performance modifications so please be gentle! thanks in advance.

so let me get this right you want to make a cat back exhaust using that magnaflow muffler then you want put another muffler on at the end of the exhaust like a straight thru muffler? If thats how your planning on doing it just buy a glass pack type of resonator. Just make sure it doesnt have louvers in it cause thats gonna hurt your performance. im thinking about getting a resonator for my exhaust cause mine is just way to raspy for my liking.

should go.

Header > cat > resonator > muffler, for nice deep notes

The problem you may run into is there isn't much room in the stock exhaust channel to put anything bigger than the cat in there, so unless you place the muffler just before it goes over the rear trailing arm I don't think you'll have enough room for the muffler without having it protrude below the car (moreso than stock). Plus you may need to fabricate some hangers, if the muffler will not be in the stock location.

ok, i wasnt sure how people did it, like i understand Event has a 2.2 and his exhaust setup is different but he added an additional muffler after the resonator and another muffler, as quoted from Mastin "This is Events set up.

He has the 2.2L non-ecotec engine it goes since last I seen him.........

Pacesetter header, 30 inch Magnaflow XL resonator, piping, magnaflow 14" long 4" case muffler, piping to another magnaflow 14" long 4" case muffler piping ot a 3.5" tipe exiting out of the rear bumper passenger side.

At least i think they're 14". Don't see as long as an 18" not much room under there." i know a resonator will lower the exhaust sound, if using a muffler in its substitute would that work as will or not even at all? if not at all then i can get a 14" or 18" resonator and a muffler and bring them to my local exhaust shop for them to add it onto the custom piping after the cat.

ok I went to a local performance shop and got a muffler then i took it to a exhaust shop they bent me up 2.25 piping and connected it all up. then when i got my header and high flow cat i went there cause they did a good job and they told me " we dont install other peoples parts" so what he was getting at is I either had to get the parts from him and then they would install it or find another place. So I went to a performance garage called fast times they did my header and cat install in a matter of a few hours with great work I might add. so what im getting at is dont be shocked if a place turns you down for some reason. also dont just go to one shop and say u want this made and installed go around to a few places and ask for prices. get the best price u can to save yourself some money.

Event set up is a little different to say the least. But hey if he likes it thats all that matters. Stick to the normal layout and you'll be fine. The way Rascal described it is
the way most have it run. Just stick to that and you'll be just fine

thanks jackalope. for now im just gonna have the header and hi-flo on until i have more time i'll go ahead on the custom catback. i know there will be restrictions using the stock catback, until i get the custom made but im just a bit impatient lol

the word "catback" usually refers to a pre-made setup you can buy that has the pipe, mufflers, etc already to go. All you have to do is have it installed. (everything after the catalytic converter, bolt on)

Header > Cat > Resonator > Muffler
|____cat back____|
