Fuel Tank

ok i have done my reseach on the swap and am almost done with it. Im just wondering why you have to swap out the tank?

i know you need the fuel pump out of the new 2003.
- will it not fit in the metal tank?

i read that suncavi(i believe) started his up and it worked fine w/ the original tank and pump but the gas guage was reading off due to the difference in the level sensor.

So in theory you could just swap out the level sensors with a new one(newer year?)

- Also im wondering if the plugs are the same for the pump...if not i can redo connectors and what not.

im not trying to cheap out im just seeing if it is really necessary to switch out the tank.
Or if you can modify the sending unit.

Also i knwo the evap canister is in the back, but that is just a simple re-routing the lines.

I have a 99 that I swapped the electronics in the car (actually, most of the car) to a 2000... 99 is a metal tank, old style sender. 00 is plastic tank, new style sender. Mine plugged in and worked fine...

The fittings on the 00+ plastic tanks to the metal fuel lines under the car are different... and I don't think they're compatible for plug & play...

BTW, my level sensor works just fine... no problems at all. But my charcoal canister was already by the rear axle...

Not sure. I think they're different, but I'm not certain on that.

Ask Nate (c24na). He went from 95 2.2L to 01 2.4L... so he's done the impossible (according to GM).
