Hey, so i was driving my friend to his buddys when this grand am pulled up beside us with 3 guys in it all starin us down..prolly thinking "pos cav" so we gave them a glace and they were trying to speed up past me...so i dropped it in 3rd and cut him off hardcore and he tried to get around but i just zipped down the street..anyways the point of this post is after i hit 3500rpm in each gear the car makes this "noise" cant really describe it, im sure all your cars do it...just the sound of revving high..anyways he tells me that z24's are equipped with Ztec...same as Vtec but for gm..now i didnt belive him and i still dont cuz ive never seen that...now u guys tell me...do our cars have some sort of Ztec??
no
Go Premium, it builds character!
Zetec is a style of Ford motor most notably found in the Focus and Escorts. Now please go smack your friend and never listen to his car related advice ever again.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Exactly What i thought!! i saw ztec in a focus before but never in a z24.. i think he thinks it has it cuz of the Z
but im assuming he also thought it was ztec cuz of the acceleration gain at 3500rpm...ud think these cars are slow but ive seen them clean the streets...meaning of the lower hp cars
Zetec is in Fords Focus and zx2 escort- Its a 2.0 Motor that pulls about 140 hp like the ecotec. The Engine aren't really anything special but a Grade up from the Stock Split Port Engine in the base Model Foci. Please tell your friend not to disgrace a Cavalier again with that.
You should know your z24 has a Quad 4-
They come in Contours also

yeah
no vtec want to be just yet for gm
i belive the 2.4 ecotec is going to be the first GM with variable valve timing?
^^^ yup it is supposed to have some sort of variable valve timeing
but from what i hear its not to fabulious nothing like the honda vtec or better yet like the awsome vvt-i in the celica gts wow ever drive one i know there nothing to brag about but wow once 5500 rpms come up your at 8000 in like .2 secs lol its really nice
your friend is an idiot and you should never let him work on a car or be around any performance-related person, place, or thing.
I really believe that in the midst of GM's underpowered pushrod motor failure (thank god no more pushrod 4 cylinders lol... even though i'm building one, whateva lol) that GM should get into the present and learn from honda. as a fuel economy mechanism, the 3-lobe cam, variable valve timing, and electronic lift system is far superior to standard DOHC systems. it allows for great performance out of a factory camshaft, and also the ability to get very very good gas mileage if the vehicle is shifted under 4800 RPM's. there's so much that GM has yet to master in their domain of DOHC 4 cylinders that they really should get a grasp on what's selling these days.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
I know that high rev sound you are talking about. Its pretty loud too, and it doesn't sound like an engine roar either. It kinda sounds like its spooling up, but it isn't.
