What I don't understand is why people just talk about this, and noone is doing it yet?
Man back 5 years ago when I just came here this idea has been chilling around the ORG and it still is, I mean what the hell.
If you want to do it and if you have money to do it anything can be done.
If anyone has $15,000 to spend on this project get ahold of John Mackleer and he has a shop in Mass. that WILL do it, not that could.
Now I have done all kinds of swaps, and so have other people and if you are so set at it you just do it, and when it is done you talk about it.
Steve (Blue) has done the RHD conversion in the Cavy using some of the Porsche components and it is successful.
1st even when I was doing the auto to 5 speed swap, when there was NOONE that could tell me how to do it.
I studied how the auto tranny works and then how 5 speed works and all the working parts and when it all made sense I did the swap.
Whoever wanna do this needs to find out how AWD works in cars, NOT TRUCKS and VANS.
and then just do it and figure out the Fabrication part in progress so that way you cannot back out of it.
I am very familiar in how 2nd Gen GS-X's work and it is very simple.
A lot more simple than the trucks.
You have a Front wheel drive tranny that has a TK shaft coming out if it and the T case is bolted to it and it is so small that it all it still on the passanger side of the car cause the exhaust is in the middle.
then the 3 piece drive shaft and then the 3 bolt rear end.
These components from the DSM's might be small but they can take a beating.
T-cases to like 400 AWHP and rear little more than that.
In a AWD car that translates to mid 11's or better.
I say screw the use the tranny from this car and this from this car and all that crap.
Just use the motor and the tranny and the rear end from ONE car so that way the only fabrication that you are gonna need is to get the motor in there and 4G63 is not any bigger than your regular LD9 or a L61.
Once you have the motor in the car everything else is minor.
Rear end can be made to fit.
Axles can be cutom made to lenght (Gator Axles will make you ANY spline with ANY axle)
Drive shafts can be cut, welded and balanced.
So if they can fit a 4G63 in a Civic why can't you put it in a J.
What are you all waiting for???
Start your projects it will be a long winter but NOT without about $10,000 in your pocket.
There is also a AWD 4G63 powered Mitubishi Mirage Coupe around here (local) runs 10.20's at 138mph street car all the way, Guy JUST had the cage put in it cause they wouldn't let him run at the track.
