...loss of torque due to velocity issue? maybe turbulent air entering the t.b.? ask event, though i havent seen him post in a few days. i really dont know, but i have noticed the same thing. it will kill your powerband.

I'm gonna ask another question.....that sortra relates, but not trying to steal your post........
This hapens sometimes when i'm coming out of my parking lot, or starting to accelerate onto the roadway, and i'm ready to go, go, go, and i'll move like 3 feet, and then it feels like the motor almost dies, like theres lack of fuel, or something. I get a jolt forward, and then right away get pushed back in my seat...... and then i get on my way........
I don't think its the way i drive, cuz the clutch is fine, and theres no rattlingf from a jerky clutch.
could it be that theres a lack of fuel in the line, and it gets cut off.... or somesensor thinks theres too much. It's gotta do aomething with the motor.

You will only gain power but removing your intake. I have witnessed it first hand on 3 different cars in a row on a dyno.

if he totally removed his intake the iat sensor is probably so confused it pours down 5x times gas it should.

Yes, they probably did gain power, but what happend to thier low end torque?

W/O the intake there is very little air velocity, which kills the low end torque.

This is actual dyno graph of a 100% stock 2002 Cavalier 2.2L Ecotec. 100% stock (dotted line) vs 100% stock with the intake removed from the throttle body (solid line).

HP and torque gains over 95% on the entire rpm range

Enjoy.

But the turbulence of the air would not be a factor if the car was stationary on the dyno as opposed to speeding down the 1/4 mile.

your going to have turbulance no matter what kinda of intake setup you have cause the throttle plate is there you can have it twriling as best and fastest you can through the intake tract but once that airflow hits the throttle plate the idea of trwirling and speed is gone

There is probably just as much if not more turbulance with the open throttle body on the dyno with the hood open and the dyno fan blowing on it as there would be with the hood closed driving.
