Won't Idle (2.3 Mani TB Swap) & Odometer Messe

I know I know, I made this post in the Maintenance Forum too, but this problem may be related to the 2.3 manifold and tb swap I did, so I'm hoping that maybe someone that did the swap had a similiar problem and will see it in here. Thanks.

Before I get into the problem, I will give a brief history of the car. About a month ago, I did the 2.3 manifold swap on my 2.4L Z24. I originally left the stock TB on it. Everything at that point worked fine. About two weeks ago, I did the 2.3L TB swap. I put the 2.4L TPS sensor on it and left the 2.3 IAC on it. It seemed to idle fine except for a few times if I was driving it hard and let off the gas, it would take a bit to readjust. This was all while the weather was warm. Today was the frist day of cold weather. It dropped from 70 to 40 this morning. I went to start my car this morning, and it was revving at 3K. I thought it was b/c it was cold, so I drove it to school. It got a little better once it warmed up, but it kept idling around 3K. I was at school for 7 hours, and I went to come home, and it did the same thing except worse. I started to drive it and as soon as I pushed in the clutch, it almost immediately dropped 500 RPM when usually it only gradually decreases to about 1500. It wouldn't stop even after it warmed up. I swapped the 2.4L IAC back into it. That fixed the idle problem when the car is sitting, but if I am driving it and push in the clutch, it dies. Any ideas on that?

The strangest thing with my odometer happened today too. All of the sudden the odometer display got garmbled and kept flashing between the trip odometer and a garbled mess. I turned the car off and started it again, and then the odometer just went blank. It didn't matter if I hit the reset button or not. I restared it again, and then it came up right, but it started to flash garbled stuff again within about 5 minutes.

Please help me!! This is my daily driver and I can't be without a car. Any input would be appreciated!

Hmm,
Pics would help, that way we would know which 2.3L tb you have.
But since you're back to your stocker then............

On the 2.4L tb, you have to cap off the left most port that used to go to the fpr. Since that line now goes to the manifold.

Also, most people cap off the oil breather line on the rear of the manifold.

R u using the 2.3L gasket kit? Comes with the mani and tb gasket. $10> at Advance auto parts.

Try resetting the idle. Disconnect the battery, lret it rest. Then do the turn key off, wait, turn on tecnique.

Finally, make sure there are no leaks at the head. Did you port match the mani? Or use one of the flanges that are out there?

From my experience, it was usually a leak from the mani not being bolted to the head tight enough. Can't go by the factory specs.
Or the mani not port matched well.

And I've always been able to use any combination of 2.3/2.4L tps or iacs.

Actually, I still have the 2.3L TB on. I just put the 2.4L IAC on it. It is a 2.3L TB off of a '95. And yes, when I had the 2.4L TB I had a cap on the extra vacuum port. And yes, I am using the 2.3L gasket kit on it also. I bought a brand new kit at AutoZone. I tried the key on off technique already, but it didn't work. I will try disconnecting the battery tomorrow. Yes, I used a phenolic adapter flange with lots of gasket maker. I checked for leaks with a fogger, and there are none. But I will definately try disconnecting the battery. Thanks for the reply Mastin, I really appreciate it!

Oh yeah, anyone have any idea about the odometer? Or maybe what controls it?

the odometer thing happens with me too, i just lightly push on the front of the cluster and it stops, I think mine is from switching to white face gauges, of course i also have the mani swap done so i dont know. Anyway, did you check the o-ring on the iac sensor? Make sure it isnt old or isnt outta place.

Yeah, I checked the O Ring. It looks good.

Which flange did you use?

I've tryed/had/have Chris's, Exploited garolite and Exploited aluminum.
And as good as the matching is, they still are not exact, and each one is off at a different part.
But..................

Even with that, when you say gasket maker, which part?

For my current mani, I ended up grabbing about 3 2.3L manifold gaskets, taking a pair of snips, and cutting the things up and making a 2.4Lish type gasket.
It worked, no leaks, no nothing.

And remember, you can always go back to factory to make sire there is no real trouble.
