Ok I purchases the Prothane upper and lower engine mounts for my 01 Cavalier 2.4L coupe. Now this was before (I admit this was dumb) I looked at my engine mount locations. I had thought I'd be able to just loosen the engine and hook it up to a engine hoist and then twist it abit while putting the the new mounts in. Well I didn't realize that one of my mounts is on the left side low near the crank pulley. A mechanic friend of mine suggested just putting it on a lift, then padding my fenders and putting a thick bar across to hold the engine up w/ a chain. I really don't want to damage my fenders though. Is there going to be an easier way than just putting it on a lift and bracing the engine from above while switching from below the car? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

on my ecotec which is about the same lower mounting i did it on the ground with out a jack the upper mount should hold the engine up ok
The one, the only, ME.
correct, for the lower u dont need to support the engine
There is a metal lip right after the dog bone mount just support the engine by that take teh mount out replace it and take off the mount simple swap and as for the top one that's simple enough just remove the bolts and take off the top part off the engine mount pop in the insert and replace not much will get screwed up..... cant really see how.

lol you guys suck, where are your junk yard skillz
jack up your engine for the top mount use a peice of wood ontop of the jack so u dont damage the oil pan
do the top one, the engine might turn a bit just pull it foward, with a friend. put a bolt in. then the bottom jack up the car support the engine in the same way
put engine oil on the poly euthane of the dog bone mount so that it will slide in...
Sorry...

Wow, lots of unnecessary info
Except for the Ecotec (complete upper engine mount replacement), you don't need to support the engine for either mount, as you aren't actually REMOVING the upper mount (which, combined with the trans mount(s), bears the weight of the whole engine assembly.
The upper mount insert fills in the holes around the stock upper mount. Like I said, you're not removing the mount itself... so there's no need to support the motor.
The lower mount or "dogbone" replaces the stock one. The lower mount stops the engine from moving forwards and backwards, it doesn't really support any of the weight. Once you get the stock piece of junk out of there you'll realize how pathetic and weak it is (stock).
It's actually quite ironic that the lower mount gives more "vibes" than the upper... since theoretically it should be the other way around. I find the upper mount does way more for the car (in terms of stopping the engine from 'slopping around' in the bay).
