Need Help finding stock size Alt Pulley
Thursday, September 29, 2005 2:12 PM
Well as I'm reading posts and previous posts, I'm finding that all 3rd gen pulleys will fit and same as aftermarket as long as they are stock size (not underdrive).

Does anyone know any companies that do make a stock size lightweight pulley?

Any help is appreciated.

Trying to revive this thread guys! I need a stock size alternator pulley as well, and it seems nobody knows, or at least never bothered to answer. Like others who want a stock size alt. pulley, I need it to be lightweight, but NOT underdrive. Can't seem to find any on any of the 23 sites I usually look to for parts.

BTW, as one suggested, the RSM pulleys are Stock or UD for crank, but only UD for alt

Take your stock pulley to a machinist and have them swiss-cheese it

LOL that actually makes sense. Thought about doing it myself, but my goofy ass would probably get it all off balance and it would shave itself to death.

On that note, however, if that were to be done maybe like this...

... with 6 holes in it like the RSM pulley in the picture, think the stock pulley would be strong enough with all that material removed?

Seriously? Not questioning you, but are you sure it's STOCK size ALTERNATOR pulley from RSM? Just saying that because they only list the Underdrive for the Alt.

But if it is indeed true, how did you go about ordering it? Did you have to call them and ask for it? This is excellent news for me! Thanks.

just run with out the belt on the Eco should only be racing on the track anyways so you could run with the stock stuff and belt on the street lol

lookie here

Buy it from there, Its listed under cavalier crank/alt pulleys and they get them from rsm. Simply buy the one for the eco as its listed as stock sized. And the one i have pictured is the exact same size as my stock one

So buy it with confidence cuz IT WILL WORK

I'm just currious what kind of hp gains you guys expect to gain from a stock size light weight alternator pulley? Waste of $$$ if you ask me, I'm willing to bet the gains would be so small they wouldn't even show up on a dyno...

typically you get 1hp per POUND of removed rotating weight.

would a lightened alt pulley and crank pulley make that much of a diff?

Re: Need Help finding stock size Alt Pulley

A crank pulley can free up a few hp because the factory crank pulley weighs over 4 lbs and most lighter weight aluminum crank pulley's weight roughly .5 lbs. But a factory alt pulley probably only weighs .5 lbs to begin with.....
