interesting idea..this is pretty cool

1st of all i would really like to appologize if this is in the wrong forum...but it kinda deals wit a lot of the forums...so yea...sry again

While at work, I had to clean a Silverado SS...cleaning the engine I noticed it had a Vortec cover, indicating either the motor was built by Vortec or it had a Vortec supercharger, I'm not 100% sure.
Then I remembered seeing a Vortec supercharger for the 2.4L Z24. Then BINGO! Correct me if I am wrong...but Chevy introduced regular cars, LS, sports sedans, etc. They also had the whole Super Sport (SS) goin for a while, stopped that did the whole Z cars, and now they are doing the SS supercharged. They made reg. cavs, LS, and Z...but never a cavy SS.
What if...since I notice alot of the SS come with Vortec something or other... you put the Vortec Supercharger in a 2.4 cavy...and that cover thingy, added some SS symbols where the factory would put them, like on the trunk and where the Z24 symbols are, and embroidered SS on your headrests. Or get the SS stickers or w/e. And just so it would look somewhat legit and you wouldnt look stupid, change your body kit to a very low profile kit like Wings West or something.

Technically this wouldnt be posing right? I was pretty entertaind and i thought it is a very original and cool idea...just a thought tho

Again i apologize if this is the wrong forum

Changing any type of badging that is not what you got from the factory is mis-badging, no matter how you look at it. You could put a 2.4 motor in your base model cavalier but you still have a base model cavalier, not a Z24.

Also, I don't think you can use the valve cover out of an Silverage being that the motor is probably 2 times bigger than ours cause it's a V8 (If I'm not mistaken).

Also, Vortec is the motor on the Silverado, they aren't supercharged.

Vortech superchargers is a totally different company and has nothing to do with GM (as far as making products wise).

The vortec engines are not supercharged. It's the style of engine/head design.
The 2.3L is to quad four as the 4.3L is to vortec.

well i didnt mean the valve cover...i mean the plastic cover...you no the thing that they put up there for looks and that whole "cleaness" thing...and i didnt know the Vortec that made engines was different from the ones that made the superchargers...and NHJK..i see your point and i no its posing cuz they never made a Cavy SS...but i thought it was a pretty cool idea...something different at least

I'm correcting you, because you're wrong. On so many levels that it makes my brain hurt.

I don't even know where to start in explaining how incredibly ( i don't want to say stupid, no wait, i do) ignorant that question was...

Vortec is a cute little catchphrase GM uses to make their engines have more appeal. If you want to get technical I believe it refers to the shape of the ports and combustion chambers of the cylinder head on the engine

VortecH--- is the company that makes superchargers. ZERO relation to gm.

The Z designation was used right alongside the SS, the SS camaro was a further improvement on the Z28 camaro. THe two designations were never traded for one another. There was never a real Cavalier SS because frankly, GM never released a version that was worthy of the designation.

And YES, putting any kind of engine cover, stickers or any other label that would mislead people to thinking your car has something it doesn't is POSING, not to mention really stupid, lame, and a complete waste of time.

Even if you did put a supercharger on your cav, it wasn't built as an SS, there never was an SS cav (although some dealers made up their own SS package), so putting SS badges on it is FAKING. Don't worry about how the car is perceived by others (the intent behind wanting to badge it all up as a pseudo ss, i presume), having a clean car with minimal junk on it (aka SS stickers) gets much more respect than faking the funk.

it's your car, do with it what you wish. I actually think it's not a really bad idea, as long as you did it tastefully. I could see a black 2 door cavy, with black leather seats having embroidered ss logos, and a simple body kit and possibly SS badges on the door looking good. However you would want to have the hp to back it up.

the whole vortech thing is messed up though, cuz you can get a 3400 cortec engine but ut's the same as the standard 3400 that comes in a grand am gt, just with a fancier name... so iguess GM is somewhat being posers themselves by slapping the name vortec on an engine without any real meaning behind it..........

Amen to that. We all have different likes and dislikes. If you wanna put an SS badge on your car go for it. It doesnt make it anymore and SS because of it. It does however fall in to the catagory you like. You like the ricer look and something like this would fall into the whole R-Type decals and badges they sell. So if you want SS badges go for it.

I had an idea similiar to that in giving my car a look that is different than others. Start by picking up all the SS parts they sell for my car. The RK Sport 03-05 lip kit, an SS hood and put on a single exhaust dual outlet Camaro SS tips on the exhaust. Of course turbo it and what not. Get the Brickyard spoiler. Then gewt custom license plates that say "MINISS" and have it embroidered onto my headrests. Then a custom badge that says mini-SS in the Cheverolet SS font.

It is not a stupid idea. I say if you want to do it, do it. It is your car, no one else has to drive it only you. I also garuntee that once you are done and if it was done nicely and not just thrown together all the people disliking it in this thread would like it.

I have seen far worse things done to a car than what you want. So much creativity is crushed around here because everyone screams RICE whenever something different is done.

Maybe everyone bashing him should have used the opportunity to guide him in a better direction than just screaming RICE!!!

I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.
DOH!

i agree..it was a simple question...didnt have to jump down his throat or anything..but as everyones stated already it isnt gonna look as good as you think..ive thought the same thing..since i have a HighOutput engine in my cavalier i assumed it would be cool to put a HOcavalier bage on...WRONG..you gotta look at it from the outside apperance...most common people dont even know what it is but they know one was never made so they think you look stupid for doing it...all in all i dont think anyone that works on Js would bash you but the other 99% of the world would..which do you want? lol

^^ yea i guess ur right...but i seriously wasnt gonna do that...im goin wit the wide body kit and a low pro spiler and black and blue 2tone paint and paint interior and what not...
but i just thought this was pretty original and if you had a stock cavy and threw those symbols and the embroidery and the diff outside look that kept the car lookin pretty stock and had the HP to back it up of course...why not? but im not letting a couple ppl bashing me stop me from what i want on my car....like i said i just thought it was a cool idea and thought i would share

and i used the term "rice" cuz that is what ppl call it when you do all that stuff to the outside and inside.

Well I dont think thats really what people mean by "RICE" I think what is meant is the people that have stickers all over the cars of products they dont have, they talk the talk but cant and wont walk the walk. That is what is usually meant by "RICE" Taking the time to build a nice show quality ride is not "RICING" a car.
