Ok I want to know what helps improve velocity? O the track with my ecotec with the automatic trans, i use to do a 16.3 and now i put on a 62 mm t/b on there and now I run a 16.8, some one told me I killed my velocity. Is this true? And what can I do to help recover velocity?
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
either get head work done, to open the engine up and take in more air, and or cam work, to where you take in more air...
or go back to the stock TB....
as it stands GM went over 100% volumetric efficiency with the TB.... so alot of people get these huge arse TB, and yea on a dyno it produces higher peak numbers....whoop-dee-dooo.....
however it moves your powerband so far up, you lose so much low end, by the time you reach top end in gears, you;re almost done with a 1/4 mile.
until the engine is actually taking in more air, and can actually use it, a larger TB can actually hinder your performance.
alot of people go through this...
Well...I was looking at getting a 56mm TB with the upper and lower manifolds, but now I'm not sure. I was initially going to get the TB because I was going to use the core charge to get a pulley.
From what you said though I should hold off till I have head work done?

yeah that willl pretty much solve any HP or torque issues....
thevillagemon, 56 isnt bad....
i have that now, and its a bit different with mid range pull.
i;ve tried a 58, and that was all mid to top end in comparison. i did try a 59 a while back when they were still made. the band def wasnt low enough for me.
62 is really up there. for those running turbo or FI... you shouldnt have much an issue, simply cause you are CRAMMIN air in under boost.
but N/A velocity is def important to achieve under normal running condition if you wanna keep low end as well as gain in other areas.
Okay...thanks for the information Event. I'm gonna go try the RSM site again, but last time I tried to order from there I couldn't figure it out. lol...I know its not that hard. If I can't get it that way I will have to go through High-Rev, of which I've heard mixed reviews.
Well...RSM only sells the 59 mm TB and it would be more expensive than High-Rev too.
theres been some talk, some say its been discontinued, others say discontinued without buying the manifold... i;d call rsm direct and find the real deal...
also nitro, aka jared baier, might also be making em... have to look up his profile and email him as hes taking a break.
i had the same issue with my ecotec even with stage 2 cams i went to a 62mm TB and i got slower then stock wednesday ill find out how the stock TB works at the track

The one, the only, ME.

I contacted Jared about a month ago, he said he doesn't have time to do any tb's right now, but can supply throttle plates to have my own machine shop bore it out.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?

well thaks for the anserws, im going to try the cams from howell automotive to see how much better it helps. would useing a fuel presure regulator , a better fuel pump and injectors help any?
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
put it this way, so what you have a 62mm throttle body. Unless you are losing power with the stock TB then there is no point to have a larger throttle body. The smaller throttle body creates more velocity up until you are the point where the stock TB is too restrictive. If you wanted to make better use of that 62mm TB then go forced induction. Then again, I'm always recommending forced induction to everyone because once you drive a turbo car, you will need every car to be turbo'd. Trust me.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

that depends...are you just gonna install parts, or take it somewhere and get it tuned on a dyno?
messing with fuel pressure, unless you know what you are doing and have the tools to do so, i;d get it dyno tuned.
To increase or decrease velocity us carb V8 guys go with spacers behind the carbuertor with holes in it... little holes=higher velocity. Don't know if that would work here.. but I don't see why not.
only TB spacers that are made dont really do much as they are the same size opening as the manifold... which is larger than most tb;s...
Event...what RPM or MPH range did the 59mm TB help you out? I'm hoping to get more mid range power out of the car, but if this isn't going to help I'll get a couple other things that I've been looking at getting. (Thinking a lightweight crank pulley and a shift kit). Hopefully then I'll be able to beat a stock 5 spd 2.2...lol
No im not just adding parts >.> , I do plan on going to a dyno to have it tuned. Im asking if tuned right will it help.

it can....
even on stock nothing done to em cars, tuning and messing with fuel pressure can sometimes add small small amounts...
granted the more stuff you have the more you can benefit from it.
