Secret vs JBP cams......both?
Tuesday, August 16, 2005 1:22 PM
I may be coming to own a set of the jbp stage 2 cams. (thanks Mr. Harvey)
And I already have a set of the secret cams sitting here to be installed as well.

So questions for the guru's out there....if you can bottom line it for me.

What kind of problems are we looking at for mix matching the cams:
I.e. Idle, computer, cam/vale/spring integrity?

Ultimately of course I'll have some head work, exhaust, and blah blah.

Meantime though, since I'll only have one shot to install cams for the short term, looking for opinions on how to about choosing cams.

Thanks folks,
-M

I`m no expert on the JBP cams but I do have the secret cams which offer a good gain but i`m willing to bet the jbp stage 2s offer a much better gain dont mix and match use both of the jbp cams it will most likely yield the best gain.

Not worried so much about gains just yet.
And I know installed correctly the stage 2's don't throw codes.

I guess my question is more of since the durations is +60 on either side.
How would the computer react to it? And the idle...etc.

well looking at both specs, I would go with the jbp stage 2 cams. I have the secret cams and I was expecting a little more out of them. don't mix and match because the jbp cams has more duration and a little more lift on both cams over the secret cams.

JBP stage 2
intake 260 degrees @ .050" with 377 lift
exhaust 268 degrees @ .050" with 375 lift

Secret cams
intake 200 degrees @ .050" with .360" lift
exhaust 200 degrees @ .050" with .375" lift

you should have a pretty easy decision to go with the jbp stage 2 cams for performance.....the secrect cams do add some power but the jbps are good for something like 22whp atleast thats what the jbp site shows for dyno results. But if your talking about street driveability, I`m sure its pretty aggressive but isnt that what you want if your changing your cams?

Basically from my understanding anything that's gonna get done will be snatching from the low end. The P&P, 35mm lifter cam towers, header, exhaust,... etc.
Low end meanin from 2200-3500 RPM.

Speaking about the cams, I've read the stories about low end loss with the secret cams.
And when they say loss they mean non existent.
When I get the P&P the low end is gonna start disappearing also.

So with the JBPs I'm gonna have to step on it to get anywhere.
Meaning I'll probably end up selling of the JBP cams.

I've just not heard anyone mix matching the cams so I was asking if there were going to be any computer, or timing, or idle problems if I decided to mix them.

Guess I"m just gonna have to flip a coin when it comes down to it.

Thanks for the tips guys
