Did the secret cams today in 6 hours pretty nice considering how long my buddies took last weekend, cars way faster looking forward to getting it on the dyno now. Also I was suprised to find out what the timing chain noise was....it was a guide broken in half and the tensioner didnt look to great either glad its all replaced cars feeling much faster just need to do my tranny next and car will be in the 14s cant wait!!!

6 hours, were you taking your time? When my buddy and I put my LZM stage II's in my 2.4, it took us 4 and we forgot to remove the crank pulley washer and that cost a bit of time.

But good job, glad to hear it's faster

So the butt dyno has satisfied you then.

What sound changes coming out of your exhaust have you noticed?

I really would like to get these cams in before the summer is out.
Got a set of the HO cam towers with the 35mm lifters coming too.
Man this sucks.

The gears are the same but they need to be placed in the same position in which they came off atleast thats what the manuals say, I think its incase of wear on them. But if your putting in new ones it probaly makes no difference.

The exhaust sounds a little deeper at idle but not much noisier but after 4000rpm its makes a really nice deep tone and is louder than it was before too cant wait for the track too bad the tranny needs fixin first.

About how the cam towers sit in the above post. Yes you are right about the pushing agianst the springs. However make sure when you bolt down the cam tower that you do so slowing, tighting bolts in order a little at a time and trying to keep things as level as possible. Otherwise you'll most likely strip a bolt hole, which isnt good (soft aluminum). Also make sure you put the cam towers onto the head before you bolt the timing chain housing back on (!).

I put the cam carrier bottoms on first then put the cams in then bolted it all up, we tried putting the carriers in assembled on my buddies car but that was even more of a pain in the ass.

place the bottom of the carrier on the head with the lifters in and place the cam in it then put the top on, gently tap the top of the carrier to get it to close, we had that problem at first but light tapping got it to fit dont worry it wont harm anything just be gentle.

I tried that the lower carrier just wants to pop up from the lifters and valve springs. did you have that problem and what did you do about it.

the lower carrier sat nicely on there for both the 2 sets we did, did you try placing the 2 bolts under the cam sproket into the bottom of the carrier? maybe that will help hold it on there, can you even get the carrier to sit there without the cam in?

I have the two bolts on the lower carrier, and yes I can fit the top cover on without the cam. I double check the numbers on the cam to see if its the right one and it is. the stock cam does the same thing when trying to put it back in. I think its the gasket thickness that Im fighting, but I don't know. if theres any other advise you or anyone has it would be appreciated. Im ready to get this thing running again.

so the cam fits in the carrier when its off the head? try turning the cam are you trying to get it to sit in there with the nipple pointing to TDC??it wont go back in like that......you'll have to put it in then move it back to TDC I dunno if that helps at all let me know how it goes I`m really tired right now maybe I`ll think of something else in the morning. Good Luck!
