Secret CAM success and failure

So this weekend me and a buddy did the secret cam swap did his car first took forever but got the job done amazing results guaranteed 10hp gain atleast you can really feel the pull through the hole power band but now to the increadibly frustrating part mine didnt get done because we hit a road block.... the thing on the timing cover that attaches to the side engine mount wouldnt come off heres the problem the top 2 bolts came off but the third lower one was stuck and is stripped so my question is how do I get this out its very tight and you cant get sockets in there any ideas? maybe if I removed the lower mount too I could jack the engine high enough to get a gator grip socket on it also I've seen some sprays that help break the seal on bolts anyone have experience with this pleazse help me out here I`m so frustrated I did so much work and got nothing done to my own car. So anyone with any ideas help me out I`m pretty deflated right now I busted my ass doing this and now I have to get this done.

if you got a drill bit to reach the head of the bolt you can drill a hole into it and get a screw remover bit and it will get right in there. If not there are sprays that break up the grime and grease built up on them, you can find them at all the local auto stores. good luck with it and hope my idea could help ya out.

You're gonna have to raise or lower the engine enough to get something on it... be it a grinder, or vice-grips... those bolts ARE a pain in the ass... tight as hell.

Yeah, don't be afraid to jack the engine up. Without removing the lower motor mount, we jacked my engine up enough so that with just a little bit of upwards force, the bolt came out.
Since then, we've actually cut that bolt in half, because we had so much trouble getting it back in. Not recommending it, because I guarentee it's a *terrible* idea, just mentioning it because I feel your pain, that bolt is no fun.
Just be careful, jack slowly, and do what you gotta do.

Ok so if I can keep jacking it up what should the jack be on? I had it on the dog bone mount but theres only so far I can go before that will slip where else could the jack go down there?

If you jack directly on your pan, you will kill it. A killed oil pan is bad enough, however, you might also damage the oil pickup, or even worse At the very least, you will dent the hell out of the pan, thus moving the oil level further up from where it was meant to be and possibly limiting good oil flow and routing. Not good things.

well thats why I asked for some other advice....I`m not dumb......I did already install the secret cams once I know you cant support an engine by the oil pan besides that theres evena warning at the front of the engine "do not ssupport engine by the oil pan" lol its not rocket science is there anything else that could be used? I may just disconect the lower mount and torque it up more till I can get something better on and get as much torque on it as possible cause this bolt is not gonna stop me.......come hell or high water that thing is comming out.

Heh, well, in my case, I've jacked by the oil pan every time (I've done it 5-6 times now). Just placed a wood block on top of the jack, and pumped. I don't think it says "Don't jack *engine* by oil pan", I think it either says car or doesn't specifiy. Point being, I'm sure a real mechanic would tell you not to do it, but it's worked fine for me =P

So your 100% sure its safe with a block of wood? I am thinking of just trying this in my driveway just to loosen this bolt so next time I drive out of town to my buddies place we dont have to worry bout it then, I just dont want to mess anything up.

The sticker on the engine says not to jack on the oil pan.... it doesn't (specifically) say you can't support the weight of the motor on the pan, spread out over a block of wood.

If you jack up the full weight of the car on the oil pan... yeah, you're gonna break it. But I've supported the weight of many engines on the oil pan... how the heck do you think they support engines when they take them out of a car?

As John said use a block of wood and that spreads the weight out. If you put the jack right on the pan it would hurt it. The wood spreads the weight out.

I finally got that damn bolt off! I jacked the engine up as high as I could then lodged a socket inbetween the fenderwell and an 18mm wrench on the stripped bolt and hit it with a hammer...and the bastard finally came loose cams are going in saturday now hopefully.

Check ebay, or if that doesnt work for you then check junk yards for them they are also listed on classifieds sometimes although im not one to suggest using the classifieds.
