This is deal, Ive been on the org for a few years and am still to cheap to go premium.
Well my birthday was yesterday and I got a dremel with more bits then bob veila has. sooooo, I was thinking about getting into the TB area. my reasons are as follow
1. new dremel starting to twich because I want to bore something. my parents are pretty pissed about the whole in the walls.
2. I live 5 minutes from a junkyard that must have some sort of deal with R&D.
3. If I can figure this out (obviusly with some help of the org) I can provide cheap ass TB for the org.
now for your help. obviously you cant bore it out becasue of the flapper. but how would I go about replaceing that. If I am correct I would have to find a flapper the same sise as the bore. what else would I need besdies the spring assembly and the screws. also does any one know any good doners for the project. and last but not least. is there anyone who has tried with sucess that would like to drop me some tips.

boring a TB with a dremel isnt the greatest idea unless you have some sort of setup where you have perfect holding of the dremel.
now, not to discourage, but i;ve made the throttle plate by bolting aluminum plate to the dremel advantage which is the larger of all dremels and using a stationary stand for it and lathing it down, but on the bore of the TB, it has to be pretty precise.
if anything get the plate first then bore the tb... but even before thinking about boring the TB itself, remember cant have any extra gaps... that will affect idle and drivability if its not perfectly round.
Your kidding me right? Why won't you "bore" out your cylinders while your at it?
You would be better off with a dowel rod and a piece of sand paper, or better yet a metal rasp.

Oh BTW, You are going to spend 25 bucks on a decent TB at a yard, how much does it cost for Premium again?
TB boring is pretty touchy it took me 2 of them to get one working and it still wasnt perfect but it didnt have any drivability issues. but as Event said get the plate first and bore to fit the plate
good luck with it
hmmmm the only reason I suggested useing a dremel is becasue Ives seen some succseful resluts but I guess the same goes with any thing on the org you have to give results or people will shoot you down but its cool Im detrmined.
Ill post if I make any steps further.

This is completely different than someone saying, they are going to do a 3800 swap etc. That is completely feasable idea, and the only reason people doubt is because it is difficult and few people have done it.
Boring a Throttle Body with a Dremel tool on theother hand is completely rediculous. Yeah you might a spend a week on it and come up with something that works, but its not going to be right. You would be better off spending the time your going to take on it working at McDonalds and using the money to buy one from RSM.
First off your are trying to ream out the inside of an aluminum tube, even if you were bright enough to build a jig (not saying you arent) to have some sort of systematic process for removing material from the inside of the bore, you are still going to have many imperfections.
So lets say you start out my roughing out the basic diameter of the throttle body. Your going to have to check it constantly with a micrometer, and you screw up once and its time to start over, not to mention its going to take hundreds of little cuts to rough it out, and your going to get more imperfections. Then your going to have to continue work it done with finer bits and eventually polish it. But the cross section of where the butterfly mounts is going to have to be 100% perfect, otherwise when you put your plate in its going to to either bind, which is going to leave your throttle stuck open at some point (NOT A SAFE SITUATION), or your going to get gaps around the butterfly and your engine is going to lean out (NOT GOOD EITHER)
So thats why its stupid to even use the word "bore" because thats not what your doing.
The whole process to get anything close to actually being right is taking way more effort than it is worth.
To bore you are either going to use some sort of lathe or press to get it set dead center, and then have a uniform cut strait down through the middle, then all you have to worry about is getting the correct size plate made.
If you want to do something fun with your Dremel find some thin aluminum diamond plate and cut Chevrons out or something, A dremel is not made for what you are trying to do and the only thing your going to accomplish is wearing it out.
Peace
