Engine Mounts - MAJOR dif in performance?
Monday, July 25, 2005 9:11 AM
OK, I went ahead and bought the 2 RK sport engine mounts after getting everyone's advice that the vibration would not be that bad.

My last question before I have them installed is how much of a better driving experience am I going to get? I understand the theory of how the mounts work but wanted to draw from your experience. I put strut tower braces in and noticed nothing - don't want the extra vibration if I'm not getting a noticeable benefit.

Sorry to be so indecisive but I am trying hard to maintain a balance between Looks, Ride and Performance.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Steve

the vibration might not be as bad for you then...i dunno....try it and see, the lower mount was really easy to install for me....take the old out put the old one in and you drive it all about....lol i dont know about the upper one...but try putting them in and see how you like it....if you dont like it just put the stock one back in.

they are pretty sweet, both are easy as hell to put in, i also got the b&m shiftplus with them as well, and i can chirp the tires so easily even on setting 1, the vibes arent that bad unless the air conditioning is on, im just gonna wrap the top part of my dash in swede (sp) or tweed or something, if your gonna be going boost like i am you deff need them. peace

Depends on the car and the tolerance of the owner.. I don't listen to loud music anymore (I got rid of the subs... they would have been stolen anyway with my luck )... but I like to hear what the motor is doing.

I like open exhaust... no insulation... solid motor mounts... vibrations are good times. So for me... all hard poly bushings are mint. The cowl shake (it's a convertible) is definitely worse than stock... but I like the gains... motor doesn't rock around in the bay... wheel hop is gone... torque steer is incredible, but the LSD helps with that....

Some people specifically hate the lower mount vibes... the upper is a much more important mod (in my opinion) since the upper does bear the weight of the motor. If you only do one.. make it the top one. And hey, if you hate it... resell it. It's a popular mod.

Ive Noticed A BIG BIG diff in my car no hops its not all sloppy like it was before and it chirps like a mother F&%*ker now with my centerforce clutch. now all i need is my short throw and im happy.

finally someone admits it... in reality you don't feel @!#$, alot people claim "oh they are awsome I can feel the power blah blah blah.... yeah just like your cars fast cause your intake is really loud....

its a mount, it does not add any power, it doesn't do anything, it has no moving parts, its simply holds the engine solid in place instead of having a bit of flex.... which does has advantages, keeps the header/flex pip from rubbing on the stearing rack when you go with full aftermarket exhaust, also keeps the aftermarket intakes (example = Weapon R intake on an eco) from denting the hood when the engine rocks back.... in reality if you fell any difference in power your full of @!#$, you will feel more vobrations and a tiny bit of help in the wheel hop department, nothing else

when this Jet module came out everybody was ranting and raving about it. until someone went out and dyno'd it. took about 12 runs to get 1 hp. so why not dyno just the mounts?
