engine mounts vibrations are crazy for me
Wednesday, July 20, 2005 7:27 AM
hey just installed my engine mounts on my 4speed auto
and in idle the shaking is VERY VERY noticible.. like my whole dash is shaking about 5mm in each direction... CANT BE GOOD FOR THE DECK.
when i am driving its PERFECT i feel the difference..

but now i am thinking there is something wrong with my car... my buddy has them in and has a 5speed z24 and i cant feel his .. he had them for a while. but stil.. i cant stand it..

acctually i noticed in the morning when i start my car it dosent shake as much.. later on when it gets warm and whatnot it shakes like a mofo.

because of where the idle sits in an auto, along w/ the torque convertor, you will feel it more in an auto

the longer you have em, the more broken-in they will become. that, plus the fact that you'll get used to it? it wont be much of a problem, give it a week or two.

I have 99 auto z24...
Carcustom upper and lower mounts....
Mine shake my dash a lot. The dash vibrations have lowered in intensity over time.

On a very happy note, females tend to like the vibrations when sitting at a red light.

you will get used to it. they don't affect your head unit at all if that's what you mean by deck. and as the bushings slowly wear, the vibrations will slowly decrease in intensity. and yes they are right, auto's have it worse because of their idle. but it feels more like a racecar doesn't it? lol

didnt someone on here just turn the idle up from like 600RPMS to like 800 RPMS and removed almost all the shaking?

how do you adjust the idle on a fuel injected car? the pcm will compensate for anything you do with that idle screw or throttle cable. believe me i tried that already.

apperantly you can adjust the RPMS with the tech2 that GM uses.. not sure if its true

i will try tonight ..

best of luck but that's one form of tuning, in my opinion, and you can't set a tune on these ECU's. whether it be idle, fuel, ignition, timing, anything. at least not until Shifted is done with his project.

i think event tried messing with the idle screw but he ended up getting a CEL because of a high idle.

right. if you don't get a CEL, your PCM will compensate and just drop the idle... or BOTH. and then you will be driving around, come to a stop, and your car will die because the idle will set it self too low. been there, done that.

I got my upper and low mount from RSM racing. I find there is a little bit of shaking but not like you guys are suggesting. Although my engine was just rebuilt and was completely balanced. When i put the cam shaft in i found it was a touch worse but nothing like you guy are saying... I found once my "broke in" the shaking was minimal.

I have them in my auto and it shakes like crazy at idle. It gets better when in nuetral. I think I might adjust the idle with my tech2 tomorrow. I will let you know if that works

My friend got all his upper / lower / tranny poly mounts installed, It shakes a little, Its common for those cavaliers too do that. I asked the tech at GM, He says they all do that. The tech says that all those stock mounts fail in time. He even recommends that people should use the poly mounts, They last way longer.

Hey Whiteboy. How did you change the idle with the tech2. I cant figure it out. I can get into the bcm to change settings but not the pcm. Do you know if you have to have the software for your computer to change it

oddly i dont have bad vibe issues....

i run and auto, and had the stock converter was around 1900-2200 rpm

and now even with the upgraded converter at 2800 stall rate....

no problems....

i also idle at 600rpm....

when i installed em however, i made sure everything was installed with dishsoap, and also everything was torqued back to spec.....

if stuff isnt torqued back to spec, things can loosen, causing more movement.

its soo bad i am thinking of removing the top mount and just leaving the bottom one in hopes of minimizing the vibrations.

lets just say , that my Cd player is ALLL blurry in idle, hard to read what track your on.

also depends on if you have the a/c on. when i have the a/c off, you hardly feel a difference. when the car is cold though in low rpms (between 700-1100 or so) w/ the a/c on, OH BOY can you feel it

also, it depends on the fact that i only have the lower mount, and that mount has the MP bushings
