K&N Cone Air Filter question...
Sunday, July 17, 2005 10:10 AM
Just bought a Cold Air Intake from Ebay for about 50$, and I wanna change my filter for a K&N one...
I noticed that the Intake piping is actually 2.5", and most K&N out there (at least on ebay) are 3"...
is there a clean way to make em fit or if I absolutely need a 2.5" one?
Also, will my intakebeing 2.5" affect performance compared to 3"?

Thx a lot,
Blue01GT

go to k&n's site, look up the part number for a 2.5 one....

doesnt really have to be a k&n one either, not gonna make a performance difference over any other guaze one granted you keep it clean

i have an ebay intake as well, just keep the filter they give you and buy the k&n recharger kit, and keep it wet, it helps alot, i gained almot 30 miles a tank after i did that as well.

Techno kid, are you saying you were previously using a cotton air filter DRY?

I hope you werent! A cotton guaze filter thats not oiled is not efficient at all, and will quickly decrease the life of your engine.

Only 2 ways to get your engine dirty, contaminants through your intake, the kind you cant see, and combustion by product.

; ) Even an oiled K&N is not as efficient as a paper cone filter!! :-O

Thats the safest way to go, paper. If your that crazy about all this.. (i am)

For answers to all your air filter questions, visit the BITOG forum, search under bobistheoilguy in google. They have extensive tests that compare all different type of air filters and there effect on your oil life and engine wear.

guaze is way more efficient and effective than paper or foam....

The filter that it would have come with, would propably be paper. If you oil it, it will probably fall apart.

true...

and theres a difference between oiling a filter with a mist, and drenching one.... some def need to learn that.
