Hi there
I just installed my new short throw shifter tonight...
all went fine, but at the end i'm stuck with a piece that I really don't know where it goes...
It shifts perfect, but I don't wanna take the risk to damage something...
sorry I don't have pic of the piece, but it's a small white plastic square, a bit less than 1 inch square, with a hole in the bottom and a little spring inside. There's a small bearing on the top of the square.
I really don't know where to put it, any help would be very appreciated!
Thx and sorry for my bad English, i've always spoke french at home so I do my best!!!
Thx very much

i had that piece fall out too. no clue what it does but it hasnt hurt me any in the 6 months or so ive had the shifter in. i couldnt even find the part on the GM factory diagrams. LOL.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

i had the same thing happen to me. been going for 2 mo w/o it and no problem yet.
for everyone wondering where that part goes, its part of that swing arm thing that moves when you push the shifter side to side, if you look on the bottom of that there is a little square hole that it slips into, the shifter itself needs to be out to see it cause you have to move that arm around to see it. i had to remove my shifter housing and turn it upside down to figure it out, cause this happened to me too. the spring with the roller travels in a track on the main shifter housing. its hard to explain i wish i had a pic.
thx everyone for the input...
and newt, do you think that part is essential? I doubt it...
thx again,

im not to sure, from what it looks like it just makes the side to side motion stiffer due to the compression of the spring. everyone else seems to be fine without it, save the peice tho and if you run into problems later then you can put it back.
HA that happenedto me too, I believe it's supposed to center the stick side to side when u relase it. No problems with mine.
Hmm..didnt happen to me when i installed my short thorw.. are we talking about the white cap that covers the linkage?
i have a question, instead of buying a short throw shifter, couldnt u just cut the factory one to make it shorter??

you could cut it and use a dye to thread it and that will make it shorter but thats not how a short shifter works. Over all length of the short throw is usually the same or very close to the length of the stock shifter, they move the round ball that acts as a pivot upwards on the shift, which makes the movement required to move the linkages the same distance with less effort on your part.

Yes, this piece is spring loaded and is what makes the shifter snap to the center (side-to-side) position. That way, when you place the transmission in neutral, the shifter will be centered and not flop over to one side. If it doesn't bother you that the shifter no longer has this automatic centering function, then I guess you don't need it. If it was mine, I would put it back in.
Mine came out too. I figured how it went back in.
