96+ Pontiac Grand Am and Sunfire GT, Buick Skylark, Olds Achivea Cutlass and Alero, Chevy Malibu and Cavalier Z24. Bascily all 96+ Nbodies and Jbodies till they stopped making the motor in 01-02.

Your better off getting one out of a 3rd Gen Cavalier Z24 or Sunfire GT just to avoid any other issues say with other sensors in the car...not sure if there could be one but to avoid any, do that. Also, do you have a transmission already for it? If not, you want to make sure your 2200 transmission actually hooks up to that motor.

I see in your profile that you have an automatic right now. If you have a 4-speed auto and find a motor that had a 4-speed, than you should be fine. If you have a 3 speed, you might have a problem because (I highly doubt I'm wrong about this) they didn't make any Z24s or GTs with a 3-speed auto, only 4-speed).

If you find a motor that had a manual transmission, your better off taking that tranny with you. Might be more money but it's worth it and would save you some headache in trying to fit your auto tranny on a motor that didn't come with an auto tranny.

Good luck to you...

hey don't forget some sunfire se's, mine has the wonderful 2.4 5spd. also I've done a swap to my eagle Talon, we went from a dohc 2.0 auto to a sohc 1.8 5spd wasn't hard at all took us 3 evinings. as far as the linkage and the shifter it was really easy, but that was on a completely different car. the way I look at it is as long as you have everything out you might as well change over to a 5spd cause I have driven autos and I wouldn't be happy with one.

Umm... Yeah you will need the transmission from that car too, The 2.2 and the 2.4 have completely different bellhousings. Also, if you have a 3-speed and go to the auto, other stuff may be involved since the 3spd is hydraulic and the 4spd is electronic.....(I think). If it were me, I would make sure and find a 5-speed, spend the little extra and be happier in the end. (I sold my first Z cause I hated the automatic.) And I wouldn't ever trade back!

Manual 4 EVER!!!..................LOL......J/K

Also, firebug, why did you swap in the 1.8 on purpose? The 2.0 is like 1 million, jillion times faster.

the car was free and the guy took the 2.0 motor and tranny, the 1.8 motor and tranny was $200. it runs awsome and its a great daily driver.

Oh, nice. Yeah, $200 daily-drivers are good. As for slow though, I think you might be able to beat a metro....no wait....they can run 18.5's.
