96-97 2.2OHV Performance Camshafts?
Saturday, July 02, 2005 11:26 PM
I did a search for 2.2 cam, and it came up with nothing relevant.

who, other then perhaps JBP, makes an aftermarket cam for my engine?

I'd like to get a turbo cam made up.

who would you all recommend?

Also, I have a friend who has an 2.2 OHV who bought Jbody performance's camshaft and is running great on them. If you want a personal review, look for member The Flying Skwirl and also contact JBP at their site www.jbodyperformance.com

^^^well... I don't have it installed yet

the thing is, it's a turbo spec cam, and per JBP's guidance, the car won't run very well with the turbo cam in there and no turbo on the car yet.

However, JBP makes stage I and stage II n/a camshafts for the OHV (95-97 and 98-02), both of which when paired with some headwork would yield some awesome gains. Both cam profiles are the same price... and if you want to drop the $$$ JBP can and will make you a billet cam from a blank instead of a regrind, but you have to ask them...

I suggest calling them when you order...

Their cams also come with free upgraded valve springs so you dont have to worry about any valves floating.

They're awesome guys, very personable on the phone, hooked me up pretty good with parts vs price, and if you have any problems or last minute changes are up to the task to meet your demands.

I can't give any reviews on the cam's performance just yet since its going in my spare bottom end that I'm building up (cam swaps on an OHV are a little... involved...) but what I plan on doing is running the car with 10psi on the stock bottom end, then I'll run it again on my built bottom end (same compression ratio) with the turbo cam in there and I'll be sure to make a very long detailed post about the results.

Don't expect it for a while tho, but it is coming. But their cams are awesome quality parts... here's some pics of mine.

mmmmmmm LIFT

if you are going to add a forced induction cam, you better not run the car without boost on that cam... it'll run like complete ass.

PJ thanks for the info!

How long did you have to wait for that camshaft?

I was worried I'd end up waiting forever to get it.

I too am building a bottom end for boost, but 8:1 compression pistons instead of stock 9:1.

What did you pay for your cam?

believe me I know all about cam swaps on 2.2OHV's!

cheers

8:1 compression is a little low unless you are running about 19 or 20 psi which... ok you can still do that with 9:1 and good tuning.

really?

cause I'm not the only one running 8:1 on a 2.2OHV.

(you do know that stock is 9:1 right?)

well I did wait a while for my cam

I would imagine the wait wouldn't be so bad if I didn't keep calling them to make changes/ requesting shipment of some valvetrain stuff early...

also, most of their cams are n/a style so I don't think they have too many turbo cams lying around

but I'm just guessing... JBP is excellent with customer service (and canadians really do say "eh" and "aboot")

for the cam grind and a core charge, it comes to about $315

not sure what the shipping was

if you want to do a billet cam from a blank instead of a regrind, I think its like almost $800

they dont suggest doing it.. as their regrinds are really top notch

I know I say 'eh'

If you tell them what your plans are for the car, can they design a cam around that without getting into specifications with you?

Like if I phoned them, told them I was doing a boost app. and wanted a cam that would be streetable and still net me some power, can they figure it out with what what I've given them?

I dont want to give them a specific lift and duration and then get something that I'm not happy with.

Steve

Crane Cams reground my cam, although mine is n/a. Call there tech line and ask for Dave Maxwell. It only cost me $135 plus shipping and it took just one week, though I only live about an hour and a half from them.
Comp Cams also does regrinds for about the same price, give there Cam Help line a call for info.

stock is 8.85:1 but forged internals and 9:1 is what i am saying. dude it's all in tuning and parts selection.

If they didn't shatter like they were made of glass at the 1st sign of detonation, that statement would be true, lol.
