If you've used the paper-like exhaust gasket, i'm not surprised.

They've apparently blown out on quite a few j's.

I have a paper gasket currently under my header, and it hasn't let go yet.

Its been on there for a year and a half..

are the nuts all tightened?

Yup I had a paper gasket that came with my pacesetter, needless to say it only lasted a week.. I then went to Napa to get a Teflon stock gasket for my car and never had a problem since.. You could always re use your stock gasket.. Just clean it real good first.

I dont know about what it sounds like because I cant remember.. But see if you can see moister or burnt exhaust at the flanges either on the head or the header its self.. If so, somethigns not tight right there or your gasket is blown.

Blown header gaskets are a common problem for all kinds of cars.. not just J's. That said, I've only heard them on V8's... and they can be anything from a ticking sound.. to just a loud exhaust sound coming from under the car. Basically, a broken header gasket is an exhaust leak.. and it'll sound like one.
