aftermarket header Question
Thursday, June 09, 2005 11:53 AM
hey i was talking to my brother about gettting performance headers for my 03 ecotec (cavalier) and he told me it would decrease the life of my valves (exhaust). he was in shop class in highschool so i don't know whether to believe or not. but i'm just worried about having to replace the valves earlier than i have to (if ever). if you guys could provide me with some info i would appreaciate it greatly. he was talking about how there would be a higher flow after the stock ones were replaced and it would burn them up faster...?!?!?! ?????? thanks again

never heard of anything like that. Ive had a header on my 2200 for a year and a half with no trouble.

he might be confusing it with the issue of running it strait off the headder, that would cause a rise of temp to the valves....but nothing to worry about....

it does happen , but its more common with older cars

the material the older valves were made from is a lower quaility than they are made from now

and excessive exhaust leaks or lack or exhaust would cause them to burn up quicker

nothing you really need to worry about nowadays

I was thinking the same thing.

Sergei, take it from people who actually HAVE them installed on their cars, you'll be fine with them.
