Is there a difference in the piping or mounting points between the 2.2 (non-ecotec), and the 2.4 Z24 exhausts. Also, is there a difference in 2.4L exhaust systems from 95-2002? If so, what is the difference, and could they be made to work with a little tweaking?

there might be. but if you are looking into getting a cat back for your car. just get one custom made with a muffler of your choice

there is a huge diffrence. mainly because on the 2.2, the exhaust manifold is on the front of the engine, and the intake is towards the back. on the 2.4 z24 engine, the exhaust manifold is on the back of the engine and the intake is at the front of the car.

im sure if you had a welder, you could make some custom arms to attach to the frame at the right places, or for the same amount of money you can go to a muffler shop and have them make a catback exhaust for your car.

its like 250$ for catback piping, a nice flowmaster muffler and tip, as well as the 2 hours of labor it takes them. 250$ is cheap for what you are getting.

On a N/A car, what is the best diameter to go with? Will the diameter of the piping make a big difference in the sound?

for a N/A build, i would go with 2.25 piping. you could use 2.5 inch piping, but thats pushing it....because you dont want to lose power.

with a 2.2L i would say never go above 2.25, but with a 2.4L twin cam, you might be able to use 2.5 inch without losing power.

95-98 2.2 has 1 system

95 2.3 and 96-98 2.4 have another

and the 99-05 have the same


the 99-05 and the 95 2.3 and 96-98 2.4 , are close to the same other than the mounting brackets

Thanks for the info. I think I'm gonna have a shop bend me some 2.5" pipes in case the need for positive displacement ever arises.

is there any difference between the bends on a 2.4 as opposed to the 2.2 from the cat back.....never compared them but they should be the same right......

nobody around me has a mandrel bender and 2.2 catbacks r cheaper than 2.4 catbacks
