Well my HO mani went on last week, now I've got a couple problems.. I don't know what car the manifolds off of but I also put a '95 2.3 56mm throttle body on as well. My car's a 99 automatic..
After taking the car for a spin, it seems to want to get to 4th gear or the next gear asap, even when I give it gas it just stays in gear or tries to climb to the next gear.. and under WOT it will not drop a gear, but stays in the present gear, or tries to go to the next gear, as the car bogs down and the tach tries to drop to a lower rpm...
However.. when I do floor it and the rpm's climb (slowly).. they shift at around 4900 then in the next gear.. it climbs to 3400, then sits there, then after a couple of seconds start to slowly drop... yet the car's still SLOWLY (very slowly) accelerating..
I went with the 2.4 IAC and started with the 2.4 TPS and had pretty similar to above mentioned problems, I switched to the 2.3 TPS but it didn't help and it was sort of worse.. so we adjusted the 2.3 tps.. and get this.. at WOT it goes to about 4.3x volts.. then while holding it at WOT, it climbs 0.01volts at a time every second... we didn't bother to see how high it would climb..
I should mention that when I manually use the gears.. if I'm cruising around 50 mph and shift it into second and go.. it's fine.. doesn't feel like it pulls as much as it can.. but it actually moves..
So we still don't know if it's a TPS issue or tranny issue.. or if anyone else can hazard a guess.. but basically the car doesn't recognize WOT or can't decide what to do when it's at WOT... I finally have a day off tomorrow and am going to switch back to the 2.4 TPS since that's what the computer knows.. but I'm lost..
And if for some reason other mods might affect it.. the only thing that's close would be i have the autotrans interceptor.. which never functioned exactly right from the beginning, but still does the job it's supposed to do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I should also mention that I haven't thrown any codes, I got a CEL when I first connected the battery again, but that happens everytime the battery is disconnected and I don't have a scan tool to figure out what it is, but I don't believe it's an issue.

How short did you cut the brake booster line to the TB?
On mine, if I had the line too short, the car acted as if I had an auto trans crankedup past 50% and I got cel lights.
So, first make sure you have that auto trans off the car before rerunning your tests.
Next,
Check for vac leaks from the mani to the head and proper tb lever operation .
Since you have and auto like me, you should have had to use one of the 2.3L adapter plates or spacers or whatever. Or, what I initially did was stack 2 manifold gaskets.
On mine, the tranny fluid resivoir and I think it was an AC related line, prevented the TB plate form fully shutting because the manu anf tb were too close.
That's whats going on now, so I"m waiting for another spacer to get the clearence.
Other than that, using either the 2.3l or 2.4l sensors shouldn't matter.
Good luck,

hmm.. Yea I did actually cut the brake booster line pretty short.... I'll try a longer line tomorrow.. I wonder if that's causing my problem tho, hm.

Yeah,
Try to get it about the same length as stock.
Remove the auto trans.
Disconnect the battery blah blah, clear the system and try again.
I mean,
I did a hack port on the head while it was on the car, messed with all kinds of sensors and tps, got through the vac leacs, and everything still worked out.
So you'll get it, just be diligent.

Well.. I lengthened the brake booster line, not quite same length as stock, but close.. and I took out the autotrans and reset the computer.. now.. the car is better shifting wise.. it shifts around 5800... used to shift around 6300 6400... second gear only gets me to 105 (km/h) now.. whereas it used to get me to 120.. So I'd like to get it back to how it was still...
However, i also have pretty much ZERO bottom end.. like I know the manifold's supposed to take away from the bottom end a bit.. but this is rediculous.. I'm sure something's wrong... and also.. my idle is fine.. but whenever I give it a small amount of gas.. there's a high pitched whistling... any ideas on any of these problems?
Gonna switch to the 2.4 tps tomorrow just because...
Thanks

i never had a problem on my 2.4 auto with all the 2.3 sensors on the 2.3 tb
never had a problem with the short booster line either
it sounds like your using a 2.4 IAC and have been only switching back and forth from a 2.3-2.4 TPS. I think you need to put on the 2.3 IAC and 2.3 TPS and see what happens.

Just one ????..... where did you run the vac. line that comes up from the a/c (evap purge)? In the write up it says to go to the manifold, that was an error on my part, it should go to the top port on the t/b.

Well.. I don't know what.. some people here are suggesting the vacuum line for the tranny.. but I don't know which one it is.. or if it's even visible somewhere.. but screw it.. pictures are worth more.. so here are a couple to show my vacuum lines.. and butterfly position at least.. altho doesn't help the tps situation...
and I don't know if the 2.4 iac would be affecting my problem?
Overall shot which also shows the FPR line:
Bottom left corner is where the brake booster ends on the tb, and top right corner is where it starts.. just like stock...
Evap purge.. where it starts is the first pic.. then it routes behind the manifold then to the tb in the last pic... Also the map sensor.. it begins on the manifold in the first pic, and ends at the sensor in the last pic. The last pic also shows the accessory vacuum.. stock length on the tb:
PVC line.. goes to a breather filter i tucked behind the manifold.. is this a problem? does it need a vacuum?:
Finally the butterfly at idle.. then I took a shot of it when i press the pedal to the floor so I know it's getting all the air it can at wot:
Car runs fine now except for the early shifting...
Thanks again..

Is that the Kit from the group purchase?
Which one did you get?
Everything loos hook up correctly.
Suprised you got that vibrant pipe to fit in there with the battery, I could never get mine to fit.
But the low end loss without a header isn't too drastic.
Having a good idle is a good sign.
The car may still have a hang up in the transmission system somewhere that needs to be clears out. Maybe some air bubble or poor flow or something.

You're close.

And actually,
Unless the one MAP sensor line needs ot be shorter, you shouldn't be having any trouble.
Do you still have the shorter factory hose? It plugged into the 2.4L intake mani on that nipple in the front.
And I take it you capped off where the breather filter (the hose) would have gone on the mani in the rear?

that looks like it might be a 95 TB, not sure though, but if your running the 2.4 IAC you HAVE to change to the 2.3 IAC.

Grounding kit I made myself.. just went and bought some 4 guage wire and end terminals... cost $35USD, and if i didn't buy "audio" wire it could have easily cost me $12USD.. and yea.. the vibrant intake is shoved in there pretty well

the battery's getting moved to the trunk next week though, not enough room to work on anything now.
While we had everything out.. we did add the Lucas transmission stuff to the tranny.. I wonder if some air got in then or if the caps on tightly.. altho I'm positive it is.. I'll check tomorrow..
Reason why I have no low end is because the tranny still refuses to drop a gear when floored, I don't know why, but it won't. It will drop a gear if i give it a little gas to pass someone, but if i floor it, nothing...
My idle is back down to where it used to be before the manifold... 600rpm.. so do I still need the 2.3 IAC? I have no idle problems at all.. unless the iac affects other things.. but the 2.3 IAC i have functions probably.. but it looks like it's seen better days.. so that's why i went with the 2.4.
My MAP sensor line was cracking and that's why i decided to change it.. and went around to the front of the manifold.. I would have loved to run it right down to the hole in the back.. but there was something broken inside of it so we plugged it instead of drilling and retapping.
So all in all.. I just have a tranny that shifts too early for some reason.. and won't drop a gear at WOT.. grr.
