Spun #6 Rod bearing. :(
Sunday, June 05, 2005 5:09 AM
Yup thats right I spun the #6 rod bearing in my engine on Friday night. Wasen't pushing the car hard at all at the time but I have been a little rough with it over the last week. I was stopped at a light and noticed a knock coming from the engine. This had to come at the worst time too, I leave for the JCO bash in 4 days!!!

We ended up pulling the engine and tranny yesterday and getting it on a stand. I work today but tonight I should be able to get the crank out of it and ready to go to the machine shop Monday morning. Hopefully they will be able to get it back to me with new bearings by tuesday night or wednesday morning. Then I can put everything back together and back in the car to leave for the bash Thursday morning. It's going to be a rough few days thats for sure. Here are some pics from yesterday...

Yeah it's going to be a busy few days. It is actually easier to drop the whole sub-frame with the engine and tranny still attached to it. We just set up 4 jack stands under the frame, disconnect everything and then lift the body of the car off with the hoist.

I hope that we can get everything fixed and done in time too. I've been looking forward to going to this show for a long time now. I have to say thanks to Brad at Double Z for everything, without him this car would not be going thats for sure. And to Steve who helped pull the eingine out yesterday.

Well I got everything tore down. When we checked the rod it turned out to be 6 thou out so the whole engine had to be pulled apart. The crank and rod should be ready first thing in the morning and all the gaskets and seals are on their way. I hope to have the engine back together and ready to go back in the hole tomorrow night.

Man i was told that these motor are almost undestructible. Some even run 400-500 hp on a stock bottom end.

Be sure you check everything before reassembly, so you wont have to open it back in a month.

Good luck!

they lied. that's not even close to undestructible. a Toyota 2JZ-GTE is undestructible. 1000 hp on stock bottom end, with absolutely no problems what so ever.

oh and raven, sorry to hear about the problems man, i hope you can get it back together in time.

I got the crank back and also a new rod. The crank was turned 10 on the mains and 20 on the rods. Going to start building it in a few min. Here are some pics of what my engine has been reduced to.

did you check to be sure that the new rod has the same weight as the others?

I got caught with the 2.3. They don't have the same weight.

It was the intercooler that did it ... j/k

Im glad you have all the stuff you need to get it back togather. You might want to call a good friend to give you hand in getting her back togather.

GL !!

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
