SHIFTED/anyone really.

Are you absolutly sure my 2001 getrag 4 speed auto tranny will bolt up to the 3800? I was told that the 3100-3400 were 60 degree blocks while the 3800 was a 90 degree, and the bellhousing paterns were differnt.

I find this hard to believe, but I'd like some reassurance before purchasing an engine.

Thank you.

Ok fun @!#$. Well then, haha sorry major mistake on my part. Think my manual would give me the model name for the tranny? Or do you know?

And still, would THIS tranny mount up?

The 2.2/2200 has the same bolt pattern as the 3X00 engine series.

And there's no differnce in engine block right? Well i mean design, 60-90 degree's. I gess that doesn't matter seeing as it fits underthe hood, and aparently my transmission bolts up. Ah well, Thank you Shifted. I added you to msn to ask you this. Sorry about that, I got impatient.

I'm assuming you're using a 96+ block, but I believe that they all share the same bolt pattern.

yea they do. i'd personally go with the GTP 4spd tranny over the Cavy 4spd tranny, from what I understand the GTP 4spd is stronger. I mean it takes 280 lb / ft of torque bone stock... which is quite a bit more than a stock 2200 Cavy.

Yeah, a 96-99.

As I said, I DO plan on changing trannys later on. I want to do this part in steps. And save 1000 first off. Would my cavy tranny sufice for a few months you think?

yea for a few months it should be ok. just don't try to launch it like a drag car.

Well I don't really plan to be really heavy on the gass even with the replacement tranny. Just a few occasions when some fun is in order haha.

Would going out of a stop at a decent take off: not grandma, but not smoking the tires, and accelerating moderatly hard be ok once or twice tops for testing purposes be ok with my current tranny, or would I smoke it that easily?

i'll lay it straight. at any more than half throttle you will shred the tires. punch it at a 35 mph roll, and you will shred the tires. unless you can hook at low RPMs (which you should not be doing without major tranny and drivetrain mods) then your gas pedal should not meet the floor until half way through your powerband.

I'm not talking to the floor. And deffinatly dont even consider that at a stop sign or light. I'm just talking, well f*#) it's too hard to explain

just be nice to it. don't romp it all the time but you can have a little fun with it. and your temp tranny will be just fine. if it starts slipping and making wierd noises... then you know what needs to happen lol.

the big issue is the 4t40e and the 4t65e are alot different , and size is the BIGGEST issue

with the fabrication work you have to do , itll be better to do it all at once , then to try and mess around with the rest later , cause the trans fabrication , might chage work that was already done

Ok, well you're talking transmission model number right? I'm going to start searching around and see if I can find a GTP tranny for less than 400-500. Anyone know what manual trannys have the same bolt pattern?

Also, what's the differnce between the Flowmaster original 40 series, and the Flowmaster 40 delta series?

Far as I knew...the 2.2/2200 5 speed tranny was the only manual transaxle that would bolt to the 3800, and even then, your flywheel needed modified or something. Look up Raven, he has a 5 speed 3800SC Cavalier...looks like a fun time too...he's a smart guy, he'll have all your answers...
