hey im wondering if a 2.3 head will possibly fit on a 2.4 block and if so will there be any gains at all or none?
yes it will work...with alittle modification
THE GUY SURE LOOKS LIKE PLANT FOOD TO ME!!!
use the 2.3 head, find the write-up on this site. and do the secret cam swap (2.3 HO intake cam, 2.3 LO exhaust cam)

depending on which 2.3 head you use, you might need a thicker than stock head gasket because some of the HO heads have a smaller quench pad and will cause the compression ratio to be too high for the stock pcm, as well as pump gas.

450WHP Turbo Ecotec swap in the works...
if you get a 2.3 head there is no alternative: the 086 head

so i can take the 2.3 head with the gasket and put it right on the 2.4 block and i will notice what? any gains?
No it is nowhere near that simple. The compression ratio goes way up.... so you need to do something about that, usually custom pistons....
Then the water galleries in the head have to be modified to line up with the 2.4 block.
Then you need to find a way to deal with the 2.4 cam position sensor and power steering pump.....
It takes quite a little bit of work. It's not a bolt on by any means.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
yea using the 086 head on the LD9 jumps compression up to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10.6:1 i believe

the compression goes up to 11.4:1 and a bit more for the newer 2.4. so pump gas can do it.
Secret cam swap = 95 intake cam and 90-94 Lo exhaust cam. That's the real cams to use. You need the 95 intake cam becuase of the sensor.
some 2.3 head have a different size combustion chamber? are you on dope? They're all 46.6-48CC depending on how much it has been shaved.
Like Sunfighter said, you need to modify the head. After that, you have to think about both manifold and the exhaust.
