im going to be getting a 01 cavy. silver coupe with the 8vavle 2.2litre engine. and thats a pretty weak crappy engine. my moms cavy had one from 95. cam wore away and ate away the valve rockers.
well anyways its a weak engine. 115hp.
i want to swap it out for something more powerful. either an eco-tech or 2.4l. those are both DOHC 16vavle (yea!)
now with egine will fit with the least modding? and will they fit on the 5speed tranny thats coming with my 01 cavy base model?
yes im planning on getting a new exhaust and intake.
do i have to get a new ECU or chip?
please reply. thanks
The only engine that will bolt to your tranny is an engine of the same type (2.2 OHV).
Don't get a new exhaust or intake until you get the engine in there you want.
There are no chips, and yes, you'll need to swap out ECU's if you do an engine/transmission swap.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
the 2.2 is not a bad engine, i really liked the one in my 2001 Sunfire rental, i was a little concerned about the horsepower figures but the torque makes up for it, its a peppy engine and its easy to repair. I would just try to get a 5 spd and change the exhaust and intake if anything to make it a little better.
people have put in the 3800 V6 supercharged engine in the cavs. but it takes some work

i thought the 3.8 would bolt up to that trans but needed a custom flywheel? but that swap is alot of money, time, and fabrication.

a decent amount of work...
some work is maybe an ecotec or 2.4....
a lil work is a built engine or same of whatever you have now...
in my view if you are gonna swap and engine, atleast build it up a bit with it bein out already. granted its your choice, but for the amount of work you are putting in for, only for 25 more or 35 more hp... when you have the opportunity to get at least 50more on top of that would be more benificial since people are always looking for easy ways to get power.
the 2200 is a horrible engine, its so slow and head gaskets always tend to blow on them, go with the 2.2 eco or the 2.4 (id go with the 2.4)...anything but the 2200
The 3.4 V6 out of the alero bolts right up and just needs new lines and engine mounts. One guy has done it and is still working on his project. Would boost you to 170hp and 200tq. Its easier if you have an auto but can be done with aftermarket engine management if you want manual. The flywheel off the 2.2 bolts right up.
If interested check out this guy's website. He's doing the manual swap with the 3.4

I love Modding!!

nothing personal, but you are a moron and have no clue as to what you speak on....
the older 2.2;s had the head gasket problem. not the 2200;s
horrible engine? possible for any remedial retarded person that doesnt know how to build and engine period, then yea i do agree.
an engine is only as good as its built. but do update yourself on the headgasket BS before you run spreading more false info...

all he has was basic boltons.... no turbo, nitrous, etc...
if they are so slow, why are they running similar times as you are, with less gears, his is a 3 speed, you atleast have 4 gears, puddin?
8 tenths of a mph is so much more blazingly FAST.... holy crap, lemme go get doc and marty mcfly to keep up with ya.... <img src="http://www.angelfire.com/md/TOWSONFTBLPLYR/rolleyes.gif">
considering his car dynoed at 103whp, and yours with it being a 2.4 will prob do atleast 130whp......
seems you are the slow one....

technically you could put most enigines in your car, depends on how much time and money you are willing to put into it, ive seen a big block in a cavy before so anythings possible, just will take lots of hard work. The 'easiest' engine to do the swap would be the 2.4, i believe the ecotec has lots of different parts so ud have to still switch alot of things.

honestly, it would take the same amount of effort to do a 2.4 as an ecotec, as you need pretty much everything out of either car and both came with the car....
except the upper passenger side mount, that would stay the same on the 2.4, but other than that, its pretty much similar
thats just what ive read on other forums, personally have not done a swap myself, just know it takes lots of work
