ok might seem stupid to a few of you but???
Sunday, May 29, 2005 7:15 AM
i have an 04 cav ls sport.....i want to put a intake on ...i have some questions...

1. how easy is this to do?i've never done anything mechanical before....

2. do i go with cold air or warm air?

3. does it stay on all year round?...i live in new jersey....

4. does it stay on with inspections...will it pass inspections???

5. and is it good for your engine, what exactly does it do, it gives you more power right? what about fuel economy, use more or less gas...does it hurt your engine in any way at all.....???

6. what else do i need to know about these things and please be patient with me...like is said i've always gone more show than go but i'm really liking my car and want a bit more power out of her.....

Thank you in advance....

1. it's very easy. the end with the coupler attaches to your throttle body and the other end is your air filter. the only other thing involved is plugging your IAT sensor back into the aftermarket intake.

2. cold air or warm air is a big controversy on this site. many believe there is no difference, many believe there is. warm air intakes bring air with less density and more heat, but much faster because the pipe is shorter and less travel. cold air intakes bring cooler, denser air in, which increases performance in the mid to high range as opposed to the low end with the warm air.

3. you can keep it on as long as you want. you may have to change your air filter every 9 to 12 months depending on dust / debris / etc.

4. it will pass inspection because it is not causing any changes to the emissions system of the car.

5. it doesn't hurt the car. many believe it helps the car run better, as it helps the engine breathe better with more dense air. it doesn't necessarily hurt your gas mileage, but a less restrictive intake system means more air flow and more airflow means a little more fuel, which is how you go faster. it's not going to be noticable at all but the car will get a lil quicker.

6. just do some searching around on this site and see what you think. i think it's best to spend the money for a brand name intake with a company who does their own R&D, and you can be for sure the intake will come with everything you need, as well as a hole for your IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor to plug back into.

ok for your questions number 1. Its faily simple. you only need minor knowledge of tools/cars. almost anyone could do it. The intake replaces your old intake. all sensors transfer over.

#2 Thats your choice. I have a warm air intake. Some have cold air. people will argue saying one is better than the other but your get basically the same power gains.

#3 Yes it stays on all year long, i guess if you wanted you could switch back and forth, but no need.

#4 yes it stays on with inspection, they are CARB approved and dont harm emissions.

#5 it gives you more power by smoothing out the air flow and being less restrictive. it does not hurt your engine and can help fuel economy.

#6 if you got a CAI and it sits low, dont put your car through puddles. Things like brand people will argue saying there all the same, so it doesnt matter.

there is no difference. a "Cold Air" intake is just a marketing gimmic. people see that and think its better. but when its 90 plus degrees outside, what do you think that cold air intake will be sucking in? and as we all know, the road gets hot as the sun beats down on it. hotter than te outside temp. and that heat rises and since this cold air intake sits that close to the ground it will be sucking in that hot air. and despite what some may say, the air under the hood does move around. so basically there is no diff in a cold air or warm air

^ same here

cant explain the sound but it sounds cool; you will gain mpg unless you are flooring it all the time to hear the sound....
